PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Razval Saraev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathan Harding (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harding has chosen Bitch School as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jonathan Harding was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Razval Saraev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jonathan Harding!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Steven Brown and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harding tests Saraev's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Harding avoids the body shot from Saraev.
It seemed like Harding was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
A jab from Harding misses.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Harding enables Saraev to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Harding manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Saraev in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Harding utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Saraev working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Harding keeping moving, preventing Saraev from controlling successfully.
Saraev postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Saraev is working Harding over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Harding manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Saraev manages to get himself to full guard.

Saraev pulls Harding in close to his closed guard and prevents Harding from doing any damage or advancing position.
Harding must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Saraev is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Harding misses with an uppercut. Saraev saw that one coming.
A looping hook to the body misses from Saraev. Harding does a little dance to reset his feet.

Saraev looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Saraev throws a body punch but Harding moves out of range.
Saraev misses with a takedown attempt - Harding sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
The fighters circling - Harding throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Harding sizes up Saraev with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Saraev fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Razval Saraev. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Harding scores with a punch to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jonathan Harding dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Saraev tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Harding swivels and escapes.
Harding is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Saraev shoots in for a takedown but Harding shows good takedown defense.
Harding scores with a hook.
Saraev swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Saraev has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Saraev makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Saraev wants to control from the top but Harding keeps moving.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Saraev might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Harding is looking to sweep but instead, Saraev has passed into half guard.
Saraev drops an elbow to the side of Harding's head.
Harding felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Saraev is nestled in close to Harding, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Harding won't allow Saraev to pass to mount.
Razval Saraev overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Saraev throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Harding to regain full guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Saraev tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Harding defends well and Saraev ends up having to push Harding into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Harding throws a hook but Saraev avoids it easily.
A quick step to the side and Saraev tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!


Harding walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Harding misses with an uppercut. Saraev saw that one coming.
Saraev shoots in for a takedown but Harding shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Razval Saraev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Saraev misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Saraev doesn't succeed with the takedown
letting Harding counter with a right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Razval Saraev. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Saraev takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.


Saraev is rocked!
Harding swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Oh Saraev is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Harding misses with a looping right.
A quick step to the side and Saraev tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Saraev seems to have got his legs back now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Harding jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Saraev tries for a takedown but Harding sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Saraev looks to throw the jab but Harding is out of range.
Saraev shoots and misses
and Harding counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Harding lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Saraev lands a nice looking body shot.
Harding misses with a body shot.

Saraev drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Harding has momentary wrist control but Saraev slips an elbow through the middle.
Harding wants to sweep but no luck.
Saraev trying to control but Harding is working from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Harding can do anything to dispel that myth.
Saraev sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Saraev trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Harding looking for a sweep. Not yet Harding, not yet.
Saraev looking to pass the guard.
Harding tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Harding lands a really nice looking cross but Saraev seems unphased.
Harding dips to his left and cracks Saraev with an uppercut!
Harding throws a big shot that misses.

Saraev shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Harding is trying to defend but Saraev finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Saraev is nestled in close to Harding, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Harding wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Saraev.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Harding is in a horrible position here. Saraev smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Razval Saraev.
I think Saraev has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
