11 - 23 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, James Charleston! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 14 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mohamed Khanidov! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Illya Tyunina and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Charleston has managed to clinch.
Charleston escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Khanidov is defended easily by Charleston. James Charleston seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Khanidov gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Charleston throwing strikes from guard but Khanidov blocks nicely. Khanidov working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Charleston. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Charleston loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Charleston has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Charleston is looking to escape. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Khanidov wants to stand but Charleston has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Khanidov seems to be looking for submissions.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Khanidov missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Khanidov throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Charleston to regain full guard. Charleston manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. Khanidov takes a knee to the side of the body. Charleston's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Khanidov throws a leg kick and Charleston counters with a one-two to the body. Charleston lands a head kick!

Is there anything that Khanidov can do to turn this around? Charleston instigates a clinch. Khanidov manages to break the clinch.

Khanidov bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Khanidov is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Charleston has escaped the position, nice work there. Charleston pushes Khanidov away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Khanidov gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Khanidov in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

James Charleston is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Khanidov rushes Charleston and presses him up against the cage. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Charleston gets control of Khanidov's arms and successfully pulls guard. Charleston will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Charleston wants to get back to his feet but Khanidov is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Charleston on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Charleston tries to get out of the position. Khanidov wants to stand but Charleston has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Charleston breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Khanidov tries to score a power double leg takedown but Charleston sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Khanidov somewhat.

Khanidov is rocked! Charleston closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Khanidov! Charleston dives in looking to finish! Khanidov is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
