PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between big daddy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcelo Rios (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, big daddy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Marcelo Rios!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Glass and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
daddy looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Rios closes the distance and clinches.

Rios decides to pull guard.
daddy has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rios is proving hard to escape from.

daddy decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Rios moves into range and clinches up with daddy.
A shot in the inside from Rios.

Rios breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rios lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends daddy sprawling to the canvas. Rios follows him down, looking for the kill. Can daddy hang on?


It looks like big daddy has been cut.
daddy is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rios lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rios is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for daddy!
daddy wants to control but Rios is having none of it.
Rios controlling his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rios trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Rios tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
I looks like Rios might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Rios lands with some strikes.
Rios sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
daddy really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
daddy is bucking up trying to escape but Rios cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Rios looking to control and managing it successfully.
daddy is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
A nice elbow there by Rios.

Rios looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rios pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

daddy wants to try and get back to his feet.

Rios has hold of daddy's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and daddy manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
daddy tries to hold on but Rios postures up.
Rios looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
daddy is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
daddy keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Rios controlling from mount.
daddy has given up his back here.
Rios softening up his opponent with strikes here.
daddy is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Rios.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
daddy wants to control his opponent's hands but Rios gets his hands free.
daddy is trying to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcelo Rios dominated that round.
The cut man is working on big daddy's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


A right-left combo lands from daddy.
Rios misses with a body kick.
daddy closes the distance and clinches up with Rios, looking for a takedown. daddy pushes Rios against the cage but Rios circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Rios swings and misses with a hook to the body.
daddy tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Rios counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in daddy's guard now.
Rios stopping the sweep attempt from daddy.
Rios controls from within his opponent's guard.
daddy looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Rios really doesn't want to stay on the ground with daddy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rios decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on daddy, up you get!

Rios shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rios showed some decent athleticism there.

daddy looks like he's trying to stand up.

daddy trying to hold on to Rios's head to control him but Rios postures up.
daddy tries to get to full guard but Rios has control of the leg.
Rios wants to free his trapped foot but daddy is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Rios wants to lay and pray for a moment but daddy keeps working.

and Rios decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in daddy's guard.
daddy wants to get back to his feet but Rios is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

and Rios counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in daddy's guard now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for big daddy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
daddy controls Rios momentarily but Rios frees himself.

Rios stands and steps away. daddy gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
daddy wants to clinch but Rios slips to the side
and Rios makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
daddy misses with the combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcelo Rios showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Rios has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Rios wanted to stand there but daddy had control of the position.
Rios trying to control the position from guard on top but daddy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

and Rios counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
daddy is trying to stand up here but Rios is controlling him well.

daddy kicks off Rios and gets to his feet.

and Rios counters by clinching up.
daddy goes for a takedown attempt but Rios pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Rios has closed the distance and engaged daddy in a clinch.
daddy tries to break the clinch but Rios is controlling the position.
Rios slows down the pace here.
Rios keeps control of daddy as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Rios gets control of daddy's arms and successfully pulls guard. Rios will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Rios not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rios can do anything to dispel that myth.
daddy connects with a couple of short punches.
daddy wants to stand but Rios has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
daddy wants to control from the top but Rios keeps moving.
Rios is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

daddy would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Rios counters by clinching up.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for big daddy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
daddy wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Rios pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rios takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
daddy tries to clinch but Rios moves away

and Rios counters with a shoot takedown. daddy fights it but they end up in guard.
daddy looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rios is one step ahead there.

daddy had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Rios is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. daddy Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Rios's back instead.
daddy controls the action.

Rios manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.
Rios throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
daddy darts in trying to clinch

and Rios counters with a nice double leg into side control. daddy won't be happy with that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
daddy is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Rios's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
big daddy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Rios decides to stand and escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rios fails with the takedown.
Marcelo Rios is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
daddy throws a combination that misses

and Rios counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Rios.

And that's the end of the fight!
Marcelo Rios comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rios has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
