Dam is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Bullet with a name on it. Bob Dam has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Boyd Austin's chin.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Bob Dam!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Illya Tyunina and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Austin has managed to clinch.
Austin throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Dams head.


It looks like Bob Dam has been cut.

Austin jumps into guard, dragging Dam to the mat.
Dam stopping the sweep attempt from Austin.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Austin is looking for a triangle but Dam pushes his legs off easily.
Austin is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Austin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dam gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Dam trying to control the position from guard on top but Austin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Austin looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Austin could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Austin pulls Dam in close to his closed guard and prevents Dam from doing any damage or advancing position.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Austin has his foot on Dam's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dam works his way back into a safe position though.
Austin is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Dam is controlling him.
Dam won't allow Austin to sweep him here.

Austin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dam gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Austin is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Austin has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Dam lands with a nice combination. Austin backs away looking to recover.


It looks like Boyd Austin has been cut.
Dam looks winded!

Dam tries to keep at a distance but Austin has taken the fight into the clinch.

Austin gets a trip takedown into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Austin lands a nice short elbow.

Austin is working for a submission of some sort.

Dam trying to control but Austin postures up.

Austin stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Dam tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Austin defends well and Dam ends up having to push Austin into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Austin misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Boyd Austin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Austin throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Dam wants to counter the offense by Austin and move into the clinch position.
Dam pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Dam gets tackled into the cage by Austin. Austin maintains the clinch.

Austin has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Dam uses from the top position.

Austin keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Austin turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Austin manages to end up in side control.
Austin cracks Dam with a big right hand but Dam just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Austin lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Dam down.

Austin tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Austin has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Austin is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Dam has escaped the position, nice work there.
Dam is breathing heavily.

Austin is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dam can do to turn this around?

Austin has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Austin fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Dam, pushing him back against the cage.

Austin wants the takedown. Dam is fighting it off but Austin persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Dam's guard against the cage.
Our spies down at at Cozad MMA St Petersburg inform us that Dam has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Austin is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Dam pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Dam tries to pull guard but Austin forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Austin is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Dam can't fight it off and eventually Austin manages to take the fight to the floor. Dam looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Boyd Austin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Austin holds on and takes a little breather.
