Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Harvey Compton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Willie Fire! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A decent looking body kick lands there for Fire. A momentary lapse in concentration from Fire enables Compton to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Fire manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Our spies down at at Cozad MMA St Petersburg inform us that Fire has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Fire is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fire wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Compton is now in half guard. Fire trying to hold on to Compton's head to control him but Compton postures up.
Fire should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Compton keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Compton is working for a kimura but Fire is defending it quite comfortably.
Compton really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Fire tries to roll over but Compton keeps him under control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Compton wants to stand but Fire has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Compton is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Fire is just riding it out for now. Compton eventually gives up the hold. Compton seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Fire is looking for a sweep. That's two minutes gone in the round. Nice strikes from Compton there. Compton scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Compton wants to work for an arm triangle but Fire is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Compton lands with a punch from half guard. Fire looks winded! Compton decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Willie Fire seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Fire throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Fire throws a body kick that misses and Compton counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Compton tries to stand but Fire is controlling from the bottom. Fire is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Compton connects with a couple of short punches. Fire looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Compton postures up and lands a big shot to Fire's brow. Compton is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Compton's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Compton has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Compton stands up and waves to Fire to follow him. Compton closes the distance and clinches.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Compton stalling in the clinch.

Compton works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Fire can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Compton controls the pace. Fire wants to sweep here but Compton controlling him for the moment. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Fire controls Compton momentarily but Compton frees himself. Compton wants to stand but Fire has a closed guard, so he can't escape. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Compton gets a warning from the ref for wasting time. A head punch on the inside from Compton fails to land. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Compton has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Fire regains guard immediately. That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Fire closes the distance and clinches. Fire pulls guard successfully.
Fire is breathing heavily. Compton has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Fire is proving hard to escape from. Compton got a little sloppy there for a moment and Fire has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Compton has managed to get both his arms back between Fire's legs - danger averted. Compton is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Compton chips away with some ground and pound. Compton drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Fire dives on top into guard. Compton trying to control the position.

Compton was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Fire has Compton up against the cage in a clinch.

A close second round but Willie Fire will probably get the nod - 10:9. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
Nice takedown defense from Fire. No joy for Compton on that attempt. As Compton backs off Fire throws a huge counter combo but Compton manages to avoid it all. Fire has closed the distance and engaged Compton in a clinch.

It looks like Harvey Compton has been cut. Compton shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Fire as he jumps to the side. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Harvey Compton. That's going to take a lot out of him. Fire takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fire goes for a double leg but Compton avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Compton continues to drive forward. It looked like Compton was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Fire. Compton shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Fire as he jumps to the side. Fire shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Compton is trying to defend but Fire finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Fire wants to lay and pray for a moment but Compton keeps working. Compton trying to control from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fire is trying to control. Compton wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Compton gets full guard. Compton keeping moving, preventing Fire from controlling successfully. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Compton is on top in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Fire tries for a takedown but Compton circles away easily and Compton counters by clinching up. Compton pulls guard successfully.

Compton controlling Fire's posture. Compton will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Fire would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Willie Fire. I think Fire has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
