1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Danny Carey! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rod will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Rod scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Carey is defending against the submission attempts here by Rod.
Rod is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Carey has managed to free his arm - good work. Rod knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carey on the ground. Carey is trying to control but can't.
Carey is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Rod is looking for a kimura but Carey is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Rod to get the leverage. Rod seems to be looking for submissions.
Rod is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Carey defends it well. Carey looking for submissions off his back. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carey trying to control but Rod postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round. Rod is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Carey is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Carey can't do much from the bottom here. Rod tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Carey can't do much from the bottom here. Rod tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rod has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! You can see the frustration on Carey's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Rod looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Carey tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rod wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Carey manages to work his way to half guard, despite Rod's best efforts. Carey tries to get to full guard but Rod has control of the leg. Carey moves into full guard.
Carey is trying to control the position but Rod postures up. Rod is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Carey is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Carey has escaped and now he's on top!
Rod has his foot on Carey's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Carey works his way back into a safe position though. Rod can't keep his opponent in guard - Carey advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Carey looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Carey is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rod is just riding it out for now. Carey eventually gives up the hold. Rod looking for submissions off his back. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rod is defending against the submission attempts here by Carey.
Carey is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Rod! Rod really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Carey wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it. Carey has hold of Rod's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Rod manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

A close round but Danny Carey will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Rod shoots in looking for a takedown but Carey manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rod's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Rod tries for a takedown but Carey sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Carey scores with a jab to the body. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Carey dives in and scores a takedown into Rod's guard. Carey wants to pass the guard but Rod is keeping the position. Carey pushing down on Rod's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Rod looking for submissions off his back. Rod is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Carey pulls his head out easily. Carey looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Carey is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
