Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tae Larkin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ryan Wallace! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Larkin avoids a punch combination nicely.
Wallace showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Larkin.
Larkin throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Larkin fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Wallace, pushing him back against the cage. A shot in the inside from Larkin. Larkin trying to control the position but instead, Wallace has worked for underhooks and has pushed Larkin into the cage. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Larkin seems a little flustered. He's come in with the intention of controlling the clinch but Wallace is preventing him from doing so, at least for the moment. Larkin misses with some punches.
Wallace working some nice short punches in the clinch. Wallace tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Larkin scores with a hook to the body. Larkin tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. I was talking to Larkin's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Wallace is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Larkin gets through Wallace's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Wallace misses with a knee to the head. Wallace tries for a takedown but Larkin manages to get underhooks.
Wallace's coach down at Canadian Dragon MMA was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Wallace's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Wallace lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Larkin has hold of Wallace's hands but Wallace slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
That's one minute gone in the round. Larkin wants to get back to full guard. Larkin trying to control but Wallace postures up.
Nice strikes from Wallace there. It looks like Wallace is going to stand back up.
Wallace seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Larkin is looking for a sweep. Wallace is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Wallace passes the guard and advances to mount! Wallace punishing his opponent with strikes. Wallace looking to secure an arm triangle but Larkin defends it well. Wallace working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wallace in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Larkin tries to hold on but Wallace postures up. Wallace has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Wallace wants to finish this one by submission but Larkin is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Wallace. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Wallace raining down shots from the mount! Wallace lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Larkin taking shots to the head. Wallace tries to control but Larkin wriggling away. Larkin defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Wallace. Wallace putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Larkin is rocked! Larkin really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Oh Larkin is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Wallace quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Wallace but it's paid off an Larkin is forced to tap! Nice work by Wallace.
