TWGC 12 (185lbs, D1): Montreal Qualifier - Round 1 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a middleweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Esteban Scott and Fahad Al Qarni. Scott's entrance music is Scotty Doesn't Know. A fine choice. The crowd seem to be enjoying Al Qarni's choice of entrance music: Hells Bells. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 1 losses; Esteban Scott! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 2 losses; Fahad Al Qarni!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.


The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.
Scott slaps away a takedown attempt from Al Qarni, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Al Qarni looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Scott is fending him off so far but Al Qarni persists. Nope, Scott circles away and we're back to standing.
Scott half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Al Qarni changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Scott tries to avoid it but Al Qarni manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Scott to the ground. Scott escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Scott drops down looking for a counter takedown but Al Qarni sprawls and moves away.
Esteban Scott has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fahad Al Qarni.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
We've been hearing good reports from Scott's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
