Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bruce Wayne! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jesse St Pierre! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Wayne. No joy for St Pierre on that attempt. St Pierre shoots in for a takedown but Wayne shows good takedown defense. St Pierre fails with the takedown. Bruce Wayne has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jesse St Pierre. St Pierre shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Wayne as he avoids it easily. St Pierre shoots in for a takedown and gets it. St Pierre is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Wayne is just riding it out for now. St Pierre eventually gives up the hold. Wayne actively working from the bottom here. St Pierre not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! St Pierre is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
St Pierre looks gassed! St Pierre wants to free his trapped foot but Wayne is holding on for dear life with his legs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wayne gets back to full guard.
St Pierre stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wayne swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. St Pierre fails with the takedown. Wayne gets the takedown into side control. Wayne is looking to take a break and control but St Pierre is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Wayne wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by St Pierre, who protects the arm well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wayne trying to control the action but St Pierre is working from the bottom. St Pierre tries to get back to half guard but can't. Wayne is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. St Pierre looks calm but he's in trouble here. Wayne gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. St Pierre is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Wayne lets go of the hold and St Pierre can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Bruce Wayne! Bruce Wayne is the new welterweight champion!
