Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 30 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Hamish Gaffney! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kingsley Nasir! The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Ben Watson and Chris Dean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gaffney on the wrong end of a nice jab. Gaffney throws a nice looking combination but Nasir bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. A jab from Nasir does it's job there. The fight moves into the clinch position. Gaffney with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Gaffney throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Nasir blocks it with crossed arms. Gaffney landing knees to the head.
Gaffney misses with a knee strike.
Gaffney throws a head punch that misses. Nasir tries to throw a body punch but Gaffney avoids it by throwing Nasir back against the cage. Nasir tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Gaffney just stands there and leans against the cage. Nasir tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Gaffney's elbow.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nasir keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Gaffney's efforts to push away. Nasir keeps control of Gaffney as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Gaffney misses with a hook to the ribs.
Gaffney lands an elbow inside that Nasir shrugs off. Nasir changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Gaffney fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Nasir throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nasir connects with a crisp jab. Danga de danga de dang - Gaffney scores with a four punch combination! A slow jab from Nasir misses its intended target. Gaffney drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Nasir looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Gaffney working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gaffney got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nasir has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gaffney has managed to get both his arms back between Nasir's legs - danger averted. This has been an exciting period of action! Gaffney loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Gaffney's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Gaffney postures up in Nasir's guard and throws a big left but Nasir blocks it. Gaffney has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Gaffney tries to free his leg and advance position but Nasir is retaining full guard. Gaffney looking to sit in guard and control but Nasir gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Nasir postures up in Gaffney's guard and throws a big left but Gaffney blocks it. Nasir pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gaffney is keeping the position for now. Gaffney wants to stand but Nasir is controlling the position. Gaffney pushes Nasir off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gaffney falls off balance throwing a combination
and Gaffney takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Nasir slips a jab and a cross from Gaffney.
Nasir thuds a left hand into Gaffney's body. Nasir closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Gaffney's guard. Nasir is working Gaffney over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Nasir throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Nasir missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Gaffney tries to strike from the bottom.
Gaffney is looking to stand up but Nasir isn't so interested in that idea. Nasir loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gaffney avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Nasir throws a big elbow that misses. Gaffney tries to land a sweep but no joy. Nasir pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gaffney is keeping the position for now. Nasir working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Nasir stops Gaffney from standing up.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Nasir throws a poor cross that misses
and Gaffney counters with a straight right hand. Gaffney throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Nasir. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Gaffney swinging wildly here.
Nasir tries a quick counter leg kick but Gaffney is wise to it. Nasir misses with an uppercut. Gaffney fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Hamish Gaffney will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Decent striking displayed by Nasir there. A swing and a miss from Nasir. Nasir takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Gaffney looks for a takedown but Nasir sprawls well. Gaffney closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Sloppy strikes from Gaffney. Those never looked like landing. Nasir fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gaffney has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Gaffney throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Gaffney takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nasir closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Gaffney's guard. Gaffney is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Nasir dives into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Gaffney taking punishment in the form of punches.

That's one minute gone in the round. Gaffney is trying to get back to half guard. Check out the look on Nasir's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Gaffney is rocked! Nasir has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Nasir is trying to get an arm triangle but Gaffney is defending well. Nasir cracks Gaffney with a big right hand but Gaffney just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Oh Gaffney is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Nasir working the body and head with strikes. Nasir crunches a massive hammerfist down on Gaffney - he's out! Nasir Holds back on further strikes and jumps to his feet to celebrate with the crowd!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Kingsley Nasir! A relieved looking Kingsley Nasir thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
