PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mason Capwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harris comes into the arena with Kevin Rudolf - In the City blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 42 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Frank Harris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 40 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mason Capwell!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Matheus Silva and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Capwell closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
A lull in the action here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Capwell tries to move into full mount but can't pass Harris's legs.
Harris is trying to control Capwell's posture but Capwell avoids it.
Capwell controls the position from side control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Capwell throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Harris was covering up waiting for the punch and Capwell finishes the takedown easily into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Capwell passes into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Capwell wants to advance to full mount but Harris doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Capwell looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Capwell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Harris swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Capwell not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Harris will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Capwell pushing down on Harris's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Capwell is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Harris!

Let's hope that Capwell has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Capwell's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Capwell takes Harris's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Harris is in trouble.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Capwell slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Harris shoots for a double leg takedown but Capwell sprawls well. He's pushed Harris's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Capwell.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Capwell shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Harris's guard.
Capwell is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Capwell wants to pass the guard but Harris is keeping the position.

Harris has an active guard here but Capwell has managed to pass into half guard.

Capwell is looking to advance position but Harris won't allow it.
Capwell moves into full mount! Harris won't be happy about that!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Harris is trying to escape the mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mason Capwell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Harris gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Capwell takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Capwell pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Capwell controlling the pace for now.
Mason Capwell is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mason Capwell has got the better of the ground game so far.

Harris has given up his back.
Capwell controls the position.
Capwell has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Mason Capwell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Capwell has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
