Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Emmitt Powell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jason Lee!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powell tries for a takedown but Lee sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Lee lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Lee shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Powell managing to control the position.
Lee tries to free his leg and advance position but Powell is retaining full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Powell looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Lee stops Powell from standing up.
Powell could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Powell controls Lee momentarily but Lee frees himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lee throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
As Lee tries to get set, Powell tries to push him back and clinch up but Lee manages to avoid the attempt.

Powell throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Lee tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Powell is in Lee's guard.
Powell won't allow Lee to sweep him here.
Powell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Powell throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Lee is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Powell defends well.

Powell with a flurry of punches that miss.
Lee looking to hit a scissor sweep but Powell is one step ahead there.

Lee is looking for a triangle but Powell pushes his legs off easily.

Powell stands up and waves to Lee to follow him.
Jason Lee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lee tries to clinch up

and Powell counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Lee!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lee looks to move to half guard but instead Powell has passed into mount! Damn!

Lee is looking for a sweep. Powell is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Powell winds up and cracks Lee with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Powell lands strikes from half guard.

Powell stands up out of the half guard.
Powell blocks a head kick by Lee.

Lee shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Powell is trying to defend but Lee finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Powell keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Powell's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lee wants to pass to mount but Powell is defending the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Powell trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Lee manages to pass to mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Emmitt Powell will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Lee shoots in and drives through. Powell sprawls well.

Powell closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Lee to the mat! Lee manages to get full guard.
Lee is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Powell is in close to Lee's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Emmitt Powell overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Powell shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Lee napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Powell is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Lee can do to turn this around?
Lee takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Powell is putting a hurting on Lee here, landing some big shots from side control.

Powell connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Lee some visible discomfort.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lee has hold of Powell's hands but Powell slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Powell working over Lee with some ground and pound. Lee looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Lee tries to roll over but Powell keeps him under control.
Powell scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Lee wants to get back to full guard.

Powell stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Lee to get to his feet.
Powell looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Lee displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Powell.
Lee throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Powell's waist but Powell gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lee off to one side.

Powell forces Lee back against the cage and clinches.
Powell lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Powell throws a head punch that misses.

Powell gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Lee is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Lee wants to get back to full guard but Powell has passed into side control.
Lee tries to improve position but can't.
Lee is trying to work for a sweep but Powell has mounted him!
Lee is looking to improve his position but Powell isn't that keen on the idea.
Lee is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Lee can't escape the position.
The referee warns Lee that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Powell drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Lee is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Powell wants to control but Lee is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Powell pushes Lee off looking to stand but Lee dives back in and keeps control.
Lee prevents Powell from improving his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Powell is trying to control but can't.
Lee takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Lee is looking for a kimura but Powell is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lee to get the leverage.

Powell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Powell trying to hold on to Lee's head to control him but Lee postures up.
Lee is looking to advance position but Powell won't allow it.
Powell throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Lee manages to pass to side control.
Powell struggling a bit here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Powell tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lee wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Lee is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Powell has escaped the position, nice work there.
Powell is trying to control Lee's posture but Lee avoids it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Powell is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Lee is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Lee tries to close the distance and clinch but Powell swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Powell closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Powell prevents Lee from improving his position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Powell connects with a nice short shot to Lee's temple.

Powell tries to stand but can't do so whilst Lee controls his leg.
Lee moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Powell landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lee wants to improve his position but Powell is controlling well.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Powell, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
