The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Hirohito Nitta and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pulu throws a head kick but McLain moves out of range.
An attempted straight right counter from McLain misses the target.
McLain lands with an overhand left.
McLain misses with a hook. Pulu ducked under it nicely.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pulu.
McLain takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.


It looks like Maki Pulu has been cut.
Pulu tries to clinch there but McLain circles away.
Pulu lands a leg kick that knocks McLain off balance momentarily.
Pulu misses with a looping left.

Pulu decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Pulu trying to pass the guard but McLain defending well.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Pulu is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and McLain defends it well.

McLain looks like he's trying to stand up.

Pulu is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

McLain has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Pulu is on him like a limpet, forcing McLain back against the ropes.
McLain has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Pulu lands a right hand that snaps the head of McLain backwards.

McLain is trying to push Pulu away but Pulu has him pressed against the ropes, so he's going nowhere.

Pulu throws a shot from downtown. McLain moves away and avoids it.

McLain lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
McLain is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Pulu throws a jab when McLain was well out of range.

Pulu lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

It looked like McLain wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
McLain stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and McLain wants it to stay on the feet.

Pulu displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as McLain throws out the jab.
McLain uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Pulu.
Pulu swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

and McLain counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
McLain scores with a jab. Pulu acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
McLain just misses with a punch to the body.
Pulu unleashes a big counter combination but McLain bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

The fighters circle momentarily. Pulu darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Maki Pulu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice uppercut lands for McLain. That snapped Pulu's head back.


That has opened up Maki Pulu's cut even more.
Pulu connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
McLain misses with a straight right.
It seemed like Pulu was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Pulu darts in looking for a takedown but McLain gets double underhooks and turns Pulu into the ropes.
Shane McLain has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Maki Pulu.
Pulu throws a nice looking combination but McLain bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Pulu tries to clinch but McLain is having none of it.
Pulu dives in and grabs McLain's left leg, looking for a takedown. McLain pushes down on Pulu's head and hops out.

McLain walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
McLain looks to throw the jab but Pulu is out of range.

McLain on the wrong end of a nice jab.


McLain is rocked!
McLain is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Pulu throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McLain's waist but McLain gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pulu off to one side.
Oh McLain is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Pulu gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Pulu has hold of one of McLain's legs. McLain is fighting the takedown attempt but Pulu gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Pulu tries to free his leg and advance position but McLain is retaining full guard.
McLain seems to have got his legs back now.
McLain is looking to stand up but Pulu isn't so interested in that idea.
McLain knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pulu on the ground.
Pulu wants to control from the top but McLain keeps moving.
McLain is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Pulu wants to pass the guard but McLain is keeping the position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
McLain is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Pulu is controlling him.

Pulu thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pulu accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

McLain uses the ropes to get back to his feet.
McLain throws a body shot but no joy.
McLain misses with an uppercut. Pulu saw that one coming.
Pulu thows a leg kick but McLain checks it
and McLain cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
McLain slips a straight right by Pulu.
McLain lands a glancing blow to the side of Pulu's head.
McLain bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
McLain defending well as Pulu loads up on a big left hand.
Pulu clobbers McLain with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
McLain lands a nice hook to Pulu's body. Pulu takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
McLain scores with a sloppy right hand. Pulu should have avoided that one.


The cut above Maki Pulu's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pulu throws a hook but McLain blocks it.

Pulu shoots and misses
and McLain counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Pulu misses with a hook. McLain ducked under it nicely.
McLain keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
McLain slips a straight right by Pulu.
Pulu uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from McLain.
Nice straight punches there by McLain. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of McLain.
McLain is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
McLain moves out of range as Pulu strikes.
McLain throws an overhand right that lands on Pulu's shoulder, as Pulu tries to avoid the shot.

and McLain counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.


Maki Pulu's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Pulu rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but McLain moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Pulu misses with a takedown
and Pulu takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
McLain has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Pulu finds it's way round the side to connect with McLain's head.

That's seven minutes gone in the round.
Pulu ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
A jab from McLain finds it's way through Pulu's defenses.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Maki Pulu's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 7:14 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Shane McLain!
Shane McLain decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
