Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Peter Batts! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 14 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sean Michaels! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Dmitry Maklakov and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Batts scores with a hook. A solid leg kick lands there for Michaels.
Batts scores with a head kick.
We've been hearing reports that Batts has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Michaels avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Batts gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Batts breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Batts lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Batts misses with an uppercut. Batts bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Michaels's head backwards. Batts lands a nice shot that snaps Michaels's head back.
A head kick misses from Batts. Michaels takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Michaels throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Michaels takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Batts throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Michaels's waist but Michaels gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Batts off to one side. Michaels swings widly with a right hand
letting Batts counter with a right hand. Batts scores with a leg kick.
A slow jab from Batts misses its intended target. Batts manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Michaels on his heels. He'll look to pass Michaels's guard now, I'm sure. Michaels utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Batts thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Batts drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Batts jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Batts tries to stand but Michaels is controlling from the bottom. Batts is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Michaels is looking to stand up but Batts isn't so interested in that idea. Batts is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Batts loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Batts trying to control but Michaels is working from the bottom. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Michaels can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Batts thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Michaels really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Batts. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Batts has gone for a leg lock! Michaels slips out almost immediately though and dives into Batts's guard. Michaels being controlled here momentarily. Batts bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Michaels's guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Batts pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Michaels is keeping the position for now. Batts forces his way into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Michaels has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Batts is on him like a limpet, forcing Michaels back against the cage. Michaels tries to stall but Batts uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Batts manages to break the clinch.
Michaels is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Batts lands the left hand. Peter Batts seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Batts swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Michaels. Batts scores with a head kick. Michaels tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time. Michaels tries to close the distance and clinch but Batts swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Batts is looking for a counter combo. Batts scores with a leg kick.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Batts is defended easily by Michaels. Michaels looks to land a combination but Batts avoids it well. Batts slips a jab and a cross from Michaels.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Michaels misses with a hook
and Batts counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Michaels thinking. Batts misses with a straight left. Batts drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Batts throws a big elbow that misses. Batts is working Michaels over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Batts slips nicely into half guard. Batts is working for a kimura but Michaels is defending it quite comfortably.

An attempted straight right counter from Batts misses the target. Michaels doesn't manage to clinch there - Batts circles away.
Batts appears to be looking for a big counter. A punch lands to the side of Michaels 's head but he takes it in his stride. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Peter Batts dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Batts closes the distance and pushes Michaels back into the cage. Michaels goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Batts looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Batts throws a head punch that misses. Batts breaks from the clinch.
Batts slips a jab and a cross from Michaels.

Batts fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Michaels avoids it really well and circles away. Batts lands a head kick. Michaels smiles back at him and beckons him forward. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Batts fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Michaels misses with a two punch combination.
Michaels tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Michaels takes a jab right on the kisser.
Michaels is looking to clinch but Batts is avoiding it.
Michaels rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Batts moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Batts misses with a double jab.
Batts is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Michaels can do to turn this around? Michaels chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Batts can pounce on him.
Batts uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Michaels. Batts connects with a jab. A jab from Batts does it's job there. Michaels tries to close the distance and clinch but Batts swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Batts works the jab nicely. Michaels tries a head kick but it misses.
Batts is looking for a counter combo. Michaels throws a body punch but Batts moves out of range. Batts scores with the left hand. Michaels knows he should have avoided that one. Batts lands a jab to the nose. Michaels takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Batts jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Michaels is looking to clinch. Peter Batts is winning the standup battle so far. Batts tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Michaels paws at him with a jab and circles away. Michaels throws a leg kick and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Batts throws a nice outside leg kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Batts rushes Michaels and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. The referee is keeping an eye on Michaels - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Michaels blocks an uppercut.
Batts lands on the inside with an uppercut. Batts blocks the elbow strike.
Batts turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Batts manages to end up in side control. Batts wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Michaels, who protects the arm well. Batts misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Batts is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Michaels looks calm but he's in trouble here. Batts gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Michaels is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Batts lets go of the hold and Michaels can pop his arm back in it's socket.
