PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Grigory Pechorin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Wilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pechorin kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Alexander Alyabyev - The Tempest. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Grigory Pechorin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Shane Wilson!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksandr Martynov and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pechorin throws an overhand right that lands on Wilson's shoulder, as Wilson tries to avoid the shot.
Pechorin keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.


It looks like Shane Wilson has been cut.
Pechorin lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Pechorin scores with the left hand. Wilson knows he should have avoided that one.

No joy there for Pechorin, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Wilson tries to land a knee to the head but Pechorin blocks with his arms.
Wilson seems to have recovered his senses.
Come on Wilson - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Pechorin fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Wilson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Pechorin pulls his leg out and moves away.
Pechorin tries to close the distance and clinch but Wilson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pechorin stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Wilson.
Pechorin looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Pechorin gets caught flat footed, as Wilson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Wilson is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Wilson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Wilson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pechorin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wilson has managed to get both his arms back between Pechorin's legs - danger averted.
My spies in Power Quest inform me that Wilson has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pechorin accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wilson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pechorin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wilson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Wilson lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Grigory Pechorin will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Pechorin enables Wilson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Pechorin manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Pechorin isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Wilson stacks Pechorin on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Wilson!

Pechorin is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Wilson.
