The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson throws a push kick but Rua slaps the foot to one side.
Anderson moves out of range of the leg kick from Rua.
Anderson cracks the inside of Rua's front leg.
Rua throws a sloppy head kick
and Anderson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Good standup being displayed there by Anderson as he connects with a hook.
Rua tries to move into range but Anderson moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Anderson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Rua slips under a jab.
Anderson tries to clinch there but Rua circles away.
Rua moves out of range as Anderson throws a body kick.
A solid leg kick lands there for Anderson.
Rua uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Anderson.
Rua jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Rua shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Jab, jab by Rua - just one landing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Anderson moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
An inside leg kick lands from Rua.
Anderson blocks a head kick by Rua.
It looked like Anderson wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Anderson lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Rua just misses with a punch to the body.
Anderson thuds his shin into the meat of Rua's side.
Rua tries a low kick but Anderson avoids it.

Anderson will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Rua on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Anderson thuds his right hand into Rua's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Anderson moves into range and clinches up with Rua.
With the fighters up against the cage, Rua throws an elbow but misses.
Rua doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Anderson tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Anderson lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Rua backwards.

With the fighters up against the cage, Rua throws an elbow but misses.

Anderson lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Rua or not.

Anderson breaks from the clinch.
Rua seems to have recovered his senses.
Rua looks up at the clock. Bad move! Anderson lands a right hand from hell, dropping Rua. Anderson pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.

Sparky Anderson decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
Gabriel Rua was interviewed post fight and said 'For Fucks sake.'.
