PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kilgore Trout (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by Rollin' . Trout has chosen The Chase, Giorgio Moroder as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tommy Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kilgore Trout!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Trout drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Trout throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Trout stands up and beckons Jones to his feet.
Trout shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jones but Jones pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Trout tries to clinch there but Jones circles away.
Jones really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Jones shoots in but no luck this time.

Jones scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Trout is trying to control but can't.

Jones is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Trout has managed to free his arm - good work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jones content to control rather than advance.
Trout pushes Jones off looking to stand but Jones dives back in and keeps control.

Jones decides to stand up.

Trout gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Jones wants to get back to striking at distance but Trout won't allow it.
Jones tries to score a body lock takedown but Trout shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Jones tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Jones has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Trout is working away from the top position though.
Trout is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Jones is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Trout tries to land a knee to the head but Jones blocks with his arms.

Jones has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Trout regains guard immediately.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Jones has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Trout is proving hard to escape from.

Trout is wriggling around but Jones manages to pass to half guard.
Jones seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Trout does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Trout is trying to maintain the position but Jones is very close to passing his half guard.
Jones is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Trout manages to get to full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Trout shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jones's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tommy Jones will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Jones circles away from the clinch attempt.

Jones clinches up with Trout and pushes him back against the cage.
Trout keeps control of Jones as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Jones breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jones shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Trout but Trout pushes him off and we're back to square one.
A good leg kick by Trout.
Jones will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Jones looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Trout swats away the attempt to clinch by Jones.
Trout fails to land with a series of punches.
Jones wants to clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Trout cracks the inside of Jones's front leg.
Jones circles away from the clinch attempt

and Jones counters with a nice double leg into side control. Trout won't be happy with that.
Trout striking from the bottom but nothing landed.

Jones avoids the strikes from the bottom by Trout.
Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but Trout keeps working.
Trout is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Jones off and has taken his back!

Jones prevents Trout from getting a body triangle.
Trout just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Trout misses with a punch to the head.
Jones is in bad spot here.
Jones wants to get back to his feet.
Trout doesn't have the hooks in and Jones manages to turn into his guard.

Jones stands up from Trout's guard - Jones perhaps looking for a knockout.
Jones closes the distance but Trout moves to the side

and Trout holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Jones is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tommy Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Trout is working for takedown but Jones is calmly controlling the position for now.

Jones breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Trout gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Jones counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Trout's guard now.
Jones lands a couple of digs.
Jones wants to control from the top but Trout keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jones gets to his feet. Trout looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Jones shoots in but no luck this time.
Trout throws a combination that misses

and Jones counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Trout breaks the clinch.
Jones closes this distance looking for a takedown but Trout circles away.
Trout fails with the takedown

and Jones counters with a nice double leg into side control. Trout won't be happy with that.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Trout sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Trout slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Tommy Jones dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Jones shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Trout as he jumps to the side.

Trout has Jones up against the cage in a clinch.
Jones tries to stall but Trout uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Trout lands a knee to the body.

Trout breaks from the clinch.
Trout keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Jones gets the takedown into side control.
Trout manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Trout decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Trout is looking to clinch but Jones is avoiding it.
Trout connects with a solid leg kick.

Trout clinches up against the cage.
Jones is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Trout is keeping busy.
Come on Jones - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Jones goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Jones wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Jones has had enough of the clinch but Trout keeps him there for the moment.
Trout lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Trout jumps guard.
Jones won't allow Trout to sweep him here.
Jones wanted to stand there but Trout had control of the position.

Trout controls Jones momentarily but Jones frees himself.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Trout is retaining full guard.

Jones stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Jones misses with a low kick.
Trout connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Jones shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Trout utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Jones decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Trout, up you get!

Good leg kick by Trout there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Trout fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Jones looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Jones swings for the body but Trout moves out of range.

Jones closes the distance and clinches.
Jones is working for takedown but Trout is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tommy Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Trout lands a knee to the body.
Trout keeps control of Jones as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Jones fails to pull guard.
Trout is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Jones pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Trout scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Trout as he jumps to the side.
Kilgore Trout seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Trout checks the leg kick nicely there.
Jones misses with a jab, cross combination.
Jones shoots in but no luck this time.
Tommy Jones is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Trout is trying to maintain the position but Jones is very close to passing his half guard.

Jones decides to stand and escape the position.
Trout lands a jab-cross combination.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A slapping leg kick lands for Trout. Jones shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Trout pinned against the cage. Trout gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kilgore Trout has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Trout feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Jones's calf.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tommy Jones.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jones, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
