Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Levi Beck! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marco Bonilla! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bonilla shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Beck sprawls well. Beck wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bonilla gets slowly back to his feet. Beck drops down looking for a counter takedown but Bonilla sprawls and moves away. Beck shoots and misses and Bonilla moves into the clinch. Bonilla has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Beck is trying to keep an underhook but Bonilla manages to get the takedown into half guard. Bonilla wants to pass the guard but Beck is defending well. Bonilla stalling. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bonilla tries to pass to full mount but Beck defends it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Beck has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Bonilla is on him like a limpet, forcing Beck back against the cage. Beck could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Bonilla works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Bonilla trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Beck manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Beck working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Bonilla had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Beck defends it easily. Beck throwing strikes from guard but Bonilla blocks nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Beck scoring with some ground and pound. Beck postures up in Bonilla's guard and throws a big left but Bonilla blocks it. Bonilla throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Beck postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Beck missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Bonilla manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Beck working Bonilla over with knees to the body. Beck tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Bonilla escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Beck shoots and misses and Bonilla counters with a head kick that crumples his opponent - he's in a world of trouble! Bonilla looks at the referee who does nothing so Bonilla lands a crushing right that sends Beck to the floor! This time the ref steps in to end the fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:07 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Marco Bonilla!
