PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Craig Clifton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Perri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 15 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Craig Clifton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Matt Perri!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Patrick Alders and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perri scores with a sloppy right hand. Clifton should have avoided that one.
Perri throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Clifton sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Clifton looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Perri felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Perri is trying to control but can't.
Clifton is trying to control the action in half guard but Perri is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Clifton is pressing down on Perri's thigh, looking to free his foot. Perri is holding on for now.
Perri is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Perri is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Clifton jumps into side control!
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Clifton wants to control but Perri is keeping him busy.

Perri manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Clifton missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Clifton slips a nice elbow through Perri's hands, connecting with Perri's forehead.
Clifton is looking to advance position but Perri won't allow it.
Perri is looking for a sweep. Clifton is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Clifton looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Clifton lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Perri is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Clifton tries to pass the half guard into mount. Perri knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Perri manages to get to full guard.
Perri is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Perri is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Clifton postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Perri is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Clifton has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Perri is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Perri with a flurry of punches that miss.
Clifton can't keep his opponent in guard - Perri advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Perri lands a nice short elbow.
Clifton is refusing to be controlled, as Perri sits in half guard.
Perri throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Clifton trying to get back to full guard but Perri takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Perri scores with a couple of good head shots there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Perri dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Craig Clifton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Perri manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Clifton manages to get himself to full guard.

Perri distracts Clifton with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Clifton looking for a triangle here. Perri is fighting it but it looks tight! Clifton pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Perri is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Craig Clifton!
A relieved looking Craig Clifton thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
