PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sammo Anoai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tanaka Sushi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tanaka Sushi will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sammo Anoai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tanaka Sushi!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Taro Takaoka and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Anoai moves into range and clinches up with Sushi.
Sushi looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Anoai stalling the fight.
Sushi is trying to break the clinch but Anoai has him pressed against the cage.
Anoai unloads a knee to the mid-section. Sushi lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Anoai has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Sushi is trying to keep an underhook but Anoai manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Well, if Anoai is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Anoai seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Sushi for as long as he can get away with.

Anoai drops an elbow to the side of Sushi's head.
Well, if Anoai is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Anoai works his way into full mount!
Anoai looking to finish Sushi with some ground and pound. This is bad for Sushi!
Anoai takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Anoai stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Anoai circles away from the clinch attempt.

Anoai pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Sushi gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Anoai to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Anoai engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Anoai drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Anoai jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Anoai controls from within his opponent's guard.

Anoai has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Anoai stands and steps away. Sushi gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sammo Anoai dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Anoai manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Sushi on his heels. He'll look to pass Sushi's guard now, I'm sure.

Anoai stands and steps away. Sushi gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Anoai has taken the fight to the clinch.

Anoai breaks from the clinch.
Anoai misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Anoai shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sushi napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Sushi bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Anoai shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Anoai is working for a kimura but Sushi is defending it quite comfortably.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Anoai content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Anoai is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sushi can do to turn this around?

Anoai decides to stand and escape the position.

Anoai pushes Sushi up against the cage in a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Anoai lands a damaging elbow.

Anoai wants the takedown. Sushi is fighting it off but Anoai persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Sushi's guard against the cage.
Anoai trying to control the position from guard on top but Sushi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Anoai accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Anoai decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Sushi, up you get!
Sushi fails with the takedown.
Anoai throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Sushi shoots for a double leg takedown but Anoai sprawls well. He's pushed Sushi's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Anoai throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sushi is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Anoai is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Sushi's half guard.
Sushi is trying to control but Anoai passes into side control!
Sushi regains half guard.
Anoai trying to control the action but Sushi is working from the bottom.
Sushi wants to get back to full guard.

Anoai controlling the action here.
Anoai wants to take a breather but Sushi is having none of it.
Anoai is really struggling to control Sushi but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Sushi looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Anoai is controlling the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sammo Anoai dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Sushi misses with a takedown

and Anoai counters by clinching up.

Anoai manages to break the clinch.

Anoai closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sushi's guard.

Anoai stands up and waves to Sushi to follow him.

Anoai clinches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sushi wants a takedown.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Anoai obliges.

Anoai has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Sushi clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Good control from Anoai.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sushi trying to control but not successfully.
Sushi is trying to break free.
Sushi is still trying to improve position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Anoai looking for the RNC.
Anoai has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Sushi's body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Sushi is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Anoai lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Sushi.
Anoai controls the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sushi is trying to get back to his feet but Anoai has full control of the position and if anything, Sushi has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Sushi is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Anoai gets his way!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Sushi is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Anoai lands shots from the back.
Sushi is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Anoai biding his time, controlling Sushi.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Anoai continues to stall.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sammo Anoai showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Anoai has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
