Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kevin Durant! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Hathaway! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Sergei Dronov and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hathaway has Durant up against the cage in a clinch.
Hathaway pressing his opponent against the cage. Hathaway tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Durant lands a body shot. Hathaway breaks from the clinch.
Hathaway looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. A punch combination from Hathaway misses. Durant looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Hathaway throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kevin Durant seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Durant changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hathaway looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Hathaway struggling a bit here. Hathaway tries to bench press Durant off him but Durant keeps the position. Hathaway gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Durant is trying to work for a kimura but Hathaway is defending well.
Hathaway is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Durant stalling. Hathaway wants to control but Durant is keeping busy and won't allow it. Durant stalling. Durant wants to work for an arm triangle but Hathaway is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Durant seems to be looking for submissions.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Hathaway is looking for a sweep. Durant is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Durant stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Hathaway to get to his feet. Hathaway tries to clinch up but Durant circles away and keeps his distance. Durant shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hathaway but Hathaway pushes him off and we're back to square one. Jab, jab by Durant - just one landing. Durant looks to score with a jab to the body but Hathaway is just out of range. No luck for Durant with that takedown attempt. A combination from Hathaway does no damage. Hathaway gets caught flat footed, as Durant shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Hathaway has Durant pulled in close to control his posture. Hathaway wants to stand but Durant is controlling the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hathaway keeping moving, preventing Durant from controlling successfully. Hathaway has Durant pulled in close to control his posture. Durant is pushing down on Hathaway's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hathaway is fighting to maintain full guard but Durant has managed to sneak the leg through. Durant is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Hathaway is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Durant has latched onto it... Big trouble! Durant pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Hathaway is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Durant!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Kevin Durant! In his post fight interview, Kevin Durant started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
