PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ada Reyes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JR Adams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Adams has chosen 'Looking For The Stone' by Dry Branch Fire Squad as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 34 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ada Reyes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, JR Adams!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reyes ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Adams moves away.
Ada Reyes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Adams blocks the body kick.
Adams drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Reyes defends it well.
Adams misses with a takedown attempt - Reyes sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Adams moves in looking to clinch but Reyes pushes him off.
Reyes quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Reyes throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Adams tries to counter with a clinch but Reyes shakes him off and moves away.
Adams will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Adams counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Adams.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Reyes pushes Adams off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Adams lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Adams misses with a looping right.
Adams looks to throw the jab but Reyes is out of range.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Nice uppercut lands for Adams. That snapped Reyes's head back.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

A short right hand to the side of the head by Adams.
Reyes pressing his opponent against the cage.
Adams lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Reyes or not.
Reyes lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

It looks like JR Adams has been cut.
Adams blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Adams is trying to stall.
Reyes with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Adams blocks the elbow strike.

Adams has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Reyes is trying to keep an underhook but Adams manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Adams throwing shots but Reyes is blocking nicely.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Adams prevents Reyes from standing back up.

Reyes keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Reyes tries to roll over but Adams keeps him under control.
Reyes has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Adams is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Adams lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Adams has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Adams works his foot free and advances to mount.

Adams lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Reyes working to try and regain half guard.
Reyes's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Adams lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.


It looks like Ada Reyes has been cut.
Adams won't let Reyes get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Reyes is trying desperately to improve position.
Adams lands a couple of good shots and Reyes has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Adams tries to get the hooks in deep but Reyes pushed the leg off.
Well, with Adams on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Reyes is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
Adams lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Reyes.

Adams is looking to finish with some ground and pound!

This has been an exciting period of action!

Adams is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Reyes has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Reyes covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Reyes can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Adams controls the pace.
JR Adams has got the better of the ground game so far.
Reyes wants to get back to his feet but Adams is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Reyes wants to sweep here but Adams controlling him for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Adams is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Reyes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Reyes is looking to stand up but Adams isn't so interested in that idea.

Adams looking to sit in guard and control but Reyes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Reyes wants to get up but he can't break Adams's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Reyes has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Adams is trying to hold Reyes in close to prevent damage but Reyes has managed to pass into half guard.
Adams has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Reyes has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Adams is proving hard to escape from.
Adams is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Reyes will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Adams is in all sorts of trouble here.

Adams tries to roll over but Reyes keeps him under control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Adams misses with a jab, cross combination.

Adams takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Adams dives in and grabs Reyes's left leg, looking for a takedown. Reyes pushes down on Adams's head and hops out.
Adams scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Reyes connects with a leg kick. Adams looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
JR Adams is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Reyes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Adams swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Reyes throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Adams pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Reyes scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Adams doesn't seem bothered though.
Reyes connects with a single shot there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Reyes closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Adams! Reyes dives in looking to finish! Adams is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ada Reyes!
The defeated JR Adams had this to say: 'Ain't this terrible?!'.
