PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jose Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Prince Idowu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Perez comes to the cage accompanied by Light It Up. Idowu has chosen My name is Prince as his entrance music. Jose Perez is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jose Perez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Prince Idowu!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, William Gold and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perez throws out a powerful jab.
Idowu keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Perez ducks under a wild hook from Idowu.
Perez defending well as Idowu loads up on a big left hand.
Perez moves out of range as Idowu strikes.
Idowu thows a left - swing and a miss!
Idowu takes one to the side of the head.
Idowu doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Perez scores with a crisp jab that stopped Idowu in his tracks.

Perez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Idowu sprawls well initially but Perez persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Idowu kicks Perez off and gets back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Perez scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Idowu looks to land a left hand but Perez moved out of range nicely.
Perez on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Idowu tries to move into range but Perez moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Perez closes the distance and clinches.
Idowu is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Perez scores with a shoulder strike.
Still in the clinch, Perez scores with a nice short uppercut.
Idowu is trying to break the clinch but Perez is controlling him.
Idowu tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Perez just stands there and leans against the cage.
Perez's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Perez lands a body punch.
A nice left hand lands by Perez.
Nice body punch from Perez - that landed with a thud.
Perez lands a hook to the side of the head.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Perez creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.


Idowu is rocked!
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Perez lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Idowu is still on wobbly legs! Can Perez finish him?
Idowu wants to get back to striking at distance but Perez won't allow it.
Idowu seems to have recovered his senses.
Perez blocking some punches.

Perez manages to break the clinch.
Idowu takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Perez dives in and scores a takedown into Idowu's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Perez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Idowu can do anything to dispel that myth.
Perez has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Idowu keeping moving, preventing Perez from controlling successfully.
Perez working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Perez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Idowu has momentary wrist control but Perez slips an elbow through the middle.
Perez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Perez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Idowu swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Perez throwing strikes from guard but Idowu blocks nicely.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Perez's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Perez wants to control from the top but Idowu keeps moving.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Perez distracts Idowu with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Idowu keeping moving, preventing Perez from controlling successfully.
Idowu avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Perez trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Idowu manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Idowu stands up from Perez's guard - Idowu perhaps looking for a knockout.

Perez moves out of range as Idowu strikes.
Perez blocks a jab.

Idowu tries to sprawl but Perez drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jose Perez dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Idowu needs to keep his hands up - Perez had a free shot at his head there.
A big right from Idowu misses.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Perez uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Idowu.
It looked like Perez wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Idowu misses with an uppercut.
Idowu misses with a looping left.
Idowu misses with an uppercut.
Idowu lands an overhand right.
Idowu might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Idowu takes one to the side of the head.
Idowu swings for the body but Perez moves out of range.
Perez lands a body shot.

Idowu tries to keep at a distance but Perez has taken the fight into the clinch.

Perez has hold of one of Idowu's legs. Idowu is fighting the takedown attempt but Perez gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Perez throws an elbow that misses. Idowu uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Perez's guard. Nice move by Idowu!

Idowu won't allow Perez to sweep him here.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Perez is on top in guard.

Perez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Perez postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Idowu is looking for a sweep.
Perez is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Idowu can do to turn this around?
Perez wants to control but Idowu is keeping him busy.
Idowu is trying to get back to half guard.
Idowu managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Perez.

Idowu is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Perez lands an elbow.
Idowu takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

You can see the frustration on Idowu's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Perez looks up at the clock and then as Idowu takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Perez smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Perez is putting a hurting on Idowu here, landing some big shots from side control.
Perez in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
A big shot lands for Perez! That's hurt Idowu! Will he recover? Perez fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jose Perez!
In his post fight interview, Jose Perez gave a big smile as he said 'Honoured to be the winner of Primal's LW tournament!'.
Prince Idowu spoke after the fight, saying 'Damn it!'.
