Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Derrick Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ged Quinn!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Jeff Smith and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quinn misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Quinn doesn't manage to clinch there - Johnson circles away.

Johnson wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

and Johnson counters with a shoot takedown. Quinn fights it but they end up in guard.
Derrick Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ged Quinn.
Johnson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Johnson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Johnson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Quinn defends it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Quinn some visible discomfort.

Johnson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Quinn, who protects the arm well.

Johnson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Quinn knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Johnson jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Quinn is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Quinn and Johnson has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Quinn really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Quinn sneaks out the side door and pushes Johnson away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Quinn tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Johnson is looking for a counter combo.

and Johnson counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Quinn wriggles free and stands up.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Johnson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Quinn's half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Derrick Johnson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Quinn goes for a takedown in the clinch but Johnson prevents it.
Quinn is pressed up against the cage. Johnson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Quinn down to the mat. Quinn avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

and Johnson counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Quinn!

Johnson tries for a kimura but Quinn is defending well.

Johnson has hold of Quinn's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Quinn seems comfortable defending it but Johnson has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Quinn is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Quinn is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Johnson couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:17 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Derrick Johnson!
Derrick Johnson opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
