PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sean Manuwa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Walter Flanagan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Flanagan is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by The Wizard . Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sean Manuwa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Walter Flanagan!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Roosa Järviläinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manuwa tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Flanagan looks to score with a jab to the body but Manuwa is just out of range.
Manuwa attempts a counter takedown but Flanagan avoids it well and moves away.
Sean Manuwa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Flanagan lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Manuwa at a distance.
Manuwa tries to bum rush Flanagan with a series of wild strikes but Flanagan uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Manuwa throws a nice looking combination but Flanagan bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Manuwa fails with an attempt to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Flanagan fails to land with a series of punches.
Flanagan scores with a nice right hand.

A telegraphed right hand from Manuwa misses the target.
Flanagan swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Manuwa moves into the clinch.
Manuwa is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Flanagan looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Manuwa misses with a hook to the ribs.

Flanagan manages to break the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Manuwa forces Flanagan back against the cage and clinches.
Manuwa blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Manuwa is pushing Flanagan up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Manuwa has Flanagan pressed against the cage.
Flanagan goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Flanagan manages to break the clinch.
Manuwa tries to close the distance and clinch up but Flanagan swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Manuwa moves in looking to clinch but Flanagan pushes him off.

Flanagan gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Manuwa tries to score a body lock takedown but Flanagan shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Manuwa is trying to break the clinch but Flanagan has him pressed against the cage.
Flanagan blocks a body shot from Manuwa.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Manuwa is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Flanagan is defending well.

Flanagan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Flanagan pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Manuwa tries to counter with a takedown but Flanagan is quick to defend against it.
Manuwa definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Flanagan dodges the punch combination from Manuwa.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Manuwa throws a right and a left that Flanagan avoids nicely.
A nice side step and Flanagan releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Flanagan cracks a nice hook into Manuwa's ribs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Walter Flanagan dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Manuwa shoots in for a double leg but Flanagan sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Manuwa moves into the clinch.
Manuwa wants a takedown.
Manuwa can't find room to land a body shot as Flanagan controls the action.
A frustrated look appears on Manuwa's face as he tries to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Flanagan tries to throw a body punch but Manuwa avoids it by throwing Flanagan back against the cage.
Manuwa wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sean Manuwa. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Flanagan tries a body shot but Manuwa blocks it.

Manuwa is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Flanagan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Flanagan has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Manuwa blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Flanagan has Manuwa pressed against the cage.
Manuwa lands a nice uppercut.

Manuwa gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Flanagan regains guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Manuwa trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Manuwa looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Manuwa has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Manuwa thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Flanagan wants to stand up but Manuwa is controlling him.
Manuwa keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Flanagan's head.
Manuwa is looking to work some ground and pound but Flanagan has wrist control.
Manuwa is pushing down on Flanagan's leg trying to pass to half guard. Flanagan is fighting to maintain full guard but Manuwa has managed to sneak the leg through.
Flanagan looks like he's trying to stand up.
Manuwa not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Flanagan looks like he's trying to stand up.

Manuwa is working for a kimura but Flanagan is defending it quite comfortably.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Flanagan is staying active underneath Manuwa, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Manuwa thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Flanagan's head.

Manuwa maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Flanagan could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Manuwa has cracked it and Flanagan is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Manuwa!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Sean Manuwa!
A less than humble Sean Manuwa misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
