PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Devilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Libers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jake Libers!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Devilson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
As Devilson backs off Libers throws a huge counter combo but Devilson manages to avoid it all.
Devilson tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Libers defends well and Devilson ends up having to push Libers into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Libers scores with a head kick. Devilson tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Libers darts in looking for a takedown but Devilson gets double underhooks and turns Libers into the cage.

Libers rushes Devilson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Libers is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Libers looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Libers breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Devilson tries for a takedown but Libers sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Devilson is trying to drag Libers to the mat but Libers just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

and Devilson counters by moving into the clinch.

Libers's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Devilson tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Libers defends well and Devilson ends up having to push Libers into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Devilson jumps guard.
Devilson pulls Libers in to control the position.
Devilson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Libers got a little sloppy there for a moment and Devilson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Libers has managed to get both his arms back between Devilson's legs - danger averted.

Libers is trying to maintain a safe position but Devilson gets an underhook and turns Libers into the cage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Libers is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Devilson tries to pull guard but Libers holds him up against the cage and eventually Devilson drops back down to his feet.

Horrible takedown attempt by Devilson or perhaps it was just good defense by Libers, which made it look bad.

Devilson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Devilson showed some decent athleticism there.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Devilson in particular looking to stall.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Libers. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Devilson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Libers keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Libers is looking to control Devilson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Libers avoid being mounted?

Libers takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Devilson ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Devilson no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Devilson pulls Libers in close to prevent any damage.

Devilson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Libers can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Devilson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Libers manages to get himself to full guard.

Devilson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Devilson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Libers works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Devilson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Libers defends it nicely.
Jake Libers is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Devilson pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Libers back to the cage. Devilson follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
The fight stays on the outside here - Devilson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Libers counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Libers is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Patrick Devilson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Libers tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Devilson counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
