PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jack Shepherd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simon Voilier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Voilier has chosen I came to play as his entrance music. Simon Voilier told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Shepherd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Simon Voilier!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Voilier takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Shepherd looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Voilier fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Shepherd avoids it really well and circles away.

Voilier closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Voilier is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Shepherd definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Voilier jumps guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Voilier manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Voilier stops a takedown attempt from Shepherd.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Voilier effectively controlling the action here.
Shepherd is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Voilier pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Shepherd. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Voilier lands a left hand.

Voilier pulls guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Voilier has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Voilier is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Voilier lands a takedown into guard.
Voilier controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Voilier tries to free his leg and advance position but Shepherd is retaining full guard.
Voilier is stalling in the full guard.
Shepherd on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Shepherd tries to get out of the position.
It looks like Voilier might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Voilier pushes down on Shepherd's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Shepherd blocking the ground and pound attempt from Voilier.

Voilier maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Shepherd could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Voilier has cracked it and Shepherd is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Voilier!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Simon Voilier!
Simon Voilier spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
