PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gerry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cody McKenzie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McKenzie has chosen Cody McKenzie as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gerry !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cody McKenzie!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, William Peck and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McKenzie tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
throws a counter high kick but McKenzie was just alert enough to avoid it.

shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but McKenzie manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now has McKenzie in his guard.


McKenzie is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! has escaped and now he's on top!

will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
McKenzie has pulled in close to control his posture.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McKenzie displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from .

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
McKenzie is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
McKenzie wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
McKenzie wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but has him pressed against the cage.
tries to work over McKenzie's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

McKenzie wants to break the clinch but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Gerry will probably get the nod.

McKenzie is trying to control 's posture but avoids it.

stands up and we're back to a striking position.
walks into a straight right hand from McKenzie.
McKenzie misses with a wild combination.
And counters with a quick kick to the body but McKenzie blocks it.

darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

McKenzie kicks off and gets back to his feet.

is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in McKenzie's half guard.

McKenzie has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but is on him like a limpet, forcing McKenzie back against the cage.

is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. McKenzie can't fight it off and eventually manages to take the fight to the floor. McKenzie looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

McKenzie is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
is trying to work for a single leg takedown but McKenzie pulls him back up using the underhooks.

McKenzie is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
McKenzie misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
As McKenzie tries to get set, tries to push him back and clinch up but McKenzie manages to avoid the attempt.
McKenzie lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

McKenzie moves into range and clinches up with .
managing to block the knees to the body from McKenzie.

McKenzie tries to circle away but has him pinned against the cage.
McKenzie can't break the clinch.
McKenzie tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

drives through with a takedown into guard.
wants to stand and escape but instead McKenzie has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McKenzie drops back, looking for a kneebar! looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from !

shoots in but McKenzie avoids the takedown attempt easily.
McKenzie let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gerry . That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
McKenzie misses with a looping right.
throws a big counter combination but McKenzie scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
darts in looking for a takedown but McKenzie gets double underhooks and turns into the cage.
McKenzie has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
McKenzie pulls out of a head kick attempt.
shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. McKenzie defends it nicely.

Cody McKenzie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

McKenzie throws a lazy right hand but sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
shoots in and drives through. McKenzie sprawls well.
McKenzie tries to counter by closing the distance.

McKenzie bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops ! He dives into his guard looking to finish!

It looks like Gerry has been cut.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
McKenzie postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! covers up, he's hurt! McKenzie keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from McKenzie and the ref steps in to end the fight! McKenzie can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:41 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cody McKenzie!
Our winner, Cody McKenzie, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
