The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Boutrous pushes Writer up against the cage in a clinch.
Boutrous misses with a body punch.

Writer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Boutrous rushes Writer and presses him up against the cage.
Writer blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Writer breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A jab from Boutrous misses.
Writer changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Horrible takedown attempt by Writer or perhaps it was just good defense by Boutrous, which made it look bad.
Writer sets himself, and Boutrous steps forward looking for the clinch! Writer avoids it this time.
Boutrous throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Writer stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Boutrous stuffs the takedown attempt from Writer. Writer gets slowly back to his feet.

Boutrous gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Boutrous misses with a body punch.
Boutrous lands with a light punch inside.
Boutrous throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Writers head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Writer breaks the clinch.

Writer closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Boutrous to the mat! Boutrous manages to get full guard.

Boutrous looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Boutrous really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Writer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Writer drops back looking for a leg! Boutrous is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Boutrous manages to kick Writer off! Writer jumps back into Boutrous's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boutrous seems keen to control Writer's posture.
Writer works a leg free and moves into half guard.
