Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Allie Potratz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and DJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Allie Potratz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, DJ Penn!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Paulo Santos and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Potratz is looking to clinch.
Potratz tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Penn seems to be working for a kimura but Potratz defends the submission attempt.

Penn is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Penn is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Potratz doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Penn.
Potratz pushes Penn off looking to stand but Penn dives back in and keeps control.

Penn is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Potratz has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Potratz is trying to escape the mount.
Penn with shots to the head and body - Potratz looks very uncomfortable down there.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Potratz is trying to escape the mount but Penn keeps good control and instead manages to take Potratz's back.

Potratz has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Penn is proving hard to escape from.

Penn has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Potratz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Potratz has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Penn is proving hard to escape from.
Potratz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Penn on the ground.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Potratz has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Penn is proving hard to escape from.

Penn has his foot on Potratz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Potratz works his way back into a safe position though.

DJ Penn dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Penn shoots for a takedown but Potratz saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Penn keeps the fight on the outside.
Potratz tries to close the distance and clinch up but Penn swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Potratz moves into the clinch successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Penn wants a takedown.
Potratz lands a knee to the head.
Potratz using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Penn has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Penn is pulling down on Potratz's head. It's preventing any offense from Potratz, at least for the moment.

Penn is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Potratz's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Potratz's back!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Penn looking for the choke but no joy.
Penn keeps control of the position as Potratz tries to break free.

Penn is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Potratz knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Potratz for a finish.
Penn slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Penn is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Potratz wants to escape the position.
Penn is trying to stick to Potratz's back but Potratz is turning into Penn. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Penn's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Potratz.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Penn is on top in guard.

Penn uses his free foot to push down on Potratz's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Potratz.

DJ Penn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Potratz's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Penn fails to pull guard.

Potratz's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Penn shoots in for a double leg but Potratz sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Penn fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Allie Potratz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of DJ Penn.
Penn takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Potratz closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Potratz creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Potratz tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Potratz lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Penn goes for a takedown attempt but Potratz pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Potratz doesn't manage to clinch there - Penn circles away.
Allie Potratz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Potratz looks to land a combination but Penn avoids it well.

Penn will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
