PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Clair Delacruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Dillashaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Clair Delacruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Marcus Dillashaw!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Steven Brown and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dillashaw rushes Delacruz and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Delacruz tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Delacruz is trying to pull guard but Dillashaw has him pressed against the cage.
Delacruz tries to pull guard but Dillashaw forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clair Delacruz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Delacruz fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Delacruz is leaning against Dillashaw and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

Dillashaw has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Delacruz uses from the top position.
Delacruz might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Delacruz drops back, looking for a kneebar! Dillashaw looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Dillashaw looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Dillashaw!

Delacruz tries to buck Dillashaw off but Dillashaw is having none of it.
Delacruz manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Delacruz wants to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dillashaw stops Delacruz from getting back to his feet.

Delacruz pushes Dillashaw off and gets back to his feet.

Dillashaw rushes Delacruz and presses him up against the cage.
Delacruz really is a fat lump.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dillashaw controlling the action here for a moment.

Delacruz is trying to pull guard but Dillashaw turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Dillashaw pulls Delacruz into guard.

Dillashaw is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Delacruz defends well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dillashaw is controlling Delacruz's posture.

Dillashaw is looking for a triangle here but Delacruz uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Dillashaw is trying to work for a sweep but Delacruz has mounted him!
Dillashaw tries to lock up and control but Delacruz gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Delacruz stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Dillashaw swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Delacruz closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Dillashaw breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A head kick by Dillashaw misses

and Delacruz counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Delacruz throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Delacruz prevents Dillashaw from improving his position.
Delacruz with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Delacruz seems to be working for a kimura but Dillashaw defends the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Delacruz is keen to just control but Dillashaw is a slippery customer.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dillashaw is looking for a sweep. Delacruz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Dillashaw pushes Delacruz off looking to stand but Delacruz dives back in and keeps control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Dillashaw feints and as Delacruz raises his hands in defense, Dillashaw changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Dillashaw is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Dillashaw scoring with punches to the head and body.

Delacruz kicks Dillashaw off and gets to his feet.
Dillashaw tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Dillashaw looks winded!
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Dillashaw lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Delacruz has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Delacruz and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Dillashaw misses with a double jab
and Delacruz counters with a one-two to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Clair Delacruz will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Dillashaw throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Delacruz.
Delacruz is looking to counter the offense by Dillashaw and move into the clinch.

Dillashaw has managed to clinch.
Delacruz tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Dillashaw breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dillashaw lands a nice looking kick to the body. Delacruz takes a step back to recover.
Dillashaw throws a head kick that misses.
Delacruz seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Delacruz takes a head kick and shrugs it off.


It looks like Clair Delacruz has been cut.
Dillashaw will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
As Dillashaw tries to get set, Delacruz tries to push him back and clinch up but Dillashaw manages to avoid the attempt.

Dillashaw tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Delacruz misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Dillashaw throws a sloppy head kick

and Delacruz counters by moving into the clinch.
Delacruz tries to pull guard but Dillashaw won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clair Delacruz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dillashaw breaks from the clinch.
Dillashaw ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Delacruz moves away.
Delacruz tries to counter with a takedown but Dillashaw is quick to defend against it.
Delacruz avoids the head kick by Dillashaw.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dillashaw lands a big head kick that sends Delacruz to the canvas! Dillashaw follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:14 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Marcus Dillashaw!
A determined Marcus Dillashaw didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
