PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Simon Tam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Beef (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Beef has chosen Arguru as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Simon Tam looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Tony Beef!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Atkins and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Beef clinches with his opponent.
Beef content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Beef presses Tam against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Beef has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Tam is trying to keep an underhook but Beef manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Tam won't allow Beef to pass to mount.
Beef is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Tam looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Beef is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Beef wants to stand but Tam has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Beef is nestled in close to Tam, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Beef stuffs the takedown attempt from Tam. Tam gets slowly back to his feet.

Tony Beef seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Beef closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Tam is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Beef off and has taken his back!
Beef tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tam is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Beef has managed to escape the submission attempt.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Beef's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Tam with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Tam moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Beef has worked his arm free - good work by Beef!
Beef is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Tam off and has taken his back!

The referee is taking a good look at Tam as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Beef!
Beef cracks Tam with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Tam from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Beef is trying to stick to Tam's back but Tam is turning into Beef. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Beef's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Tam.
Tam stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Beef swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Tam won't allow Beef to sweep him here.

Beef escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Tam gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Tam drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Tam jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Beef wants to get back to his feet but Tam is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Tam slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Beef is trying to improve his position.

Tam is trying to get an arm triangle but Beef is defending well.
Beef sneaks back into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Tam wants to free his trapped foot but Beef is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Beef actively working from the bottom here.

Beef lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Beef throws a right and a left that Tam avoids nicely.
Beef shoots in but no luck this time.
Tam on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Tam shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Beef but Beef pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Beef scores with a hook to the body. Tam takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Tam takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Beef lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Beef stuffs the takedown.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Beef is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Tam moves into full guard.

Tam avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Beef wants to control from the top but Tam keeps moving.
Beef distracts Tam with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Beef wanted to stand there but Tam had control of the position.
Beef thows a big elbow that misses.

Tam pushes Beef off and gets back to his feet.
Beef avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Beef fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Tam bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Beef is looking for a sweep.

Tam is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Beef looks calm but he's in trouble here. Tam gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Beef is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Tam lets go of the hold and Beef can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Simon Tam!
