Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jorge Rivera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rafael Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jorge Rivera could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Rafael Santos's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jorge Rivera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rafael Santos!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Daniel Cesar and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivera looks for a takedown but Santos sprawls well.

Rivera thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Rivera moves out of range of the strikes.
Rafael Santos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Santos throws a series of punches but Rivera moves out of range.

Rivera feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Rivera is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Santos is just riding it out for now. Rivera eventually gives up the hold.

Rivera has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Santos gets full guard.
Rivera throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Santos wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Santos swings around for an armbar but Rivera sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Santos's guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Santos had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Rivera is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Santos Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Rivera's back instead.
Rivera breaks Santos's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Santos is looking for a triangle but Rivera pushes his legs off easily.

Santos manages to reverse the position and now he's in Rivera's guard. Nice work there by Santos.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Rivera has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Santos can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Rivera rushes Santos and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Rivera shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Santos but Santos pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Santos scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

That has opened up Rafael Santos's cut even more.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rivera, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
