PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Warren Daren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derek Diggler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diggler comes into a darkened arena with his song building. War by Hed Pe kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Derek Diggler looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Warren Daren! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Derek Diggler! The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Skip Squint and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Daren closes the distance and pushes Diggler back into the cage. Diggler stalling.
Daren prevents the takedown attempt.
Diggler is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Daren is defending well. Daren blocking some punches.
Diggler goes for a takedown in the clinch but Daren prevents it.
Warren Daren has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Derek Diggler. Diggler drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Daren gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Diggler is working for takedown but Daren is calmly controlling the position for now. Daren turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Daren manages to end up in side control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Diggler on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Diggler tries to improve position but can't. Diggler looks winded! Daren trying to control the position but Diggler is working away. Daren wants to stand but Diggler is controlling his arm.
That's one minute gone in the round. Daren is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Diggler knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Daren tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Daren tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Diggler is being controlled here. Daren tries for a kimura but Diggler is defending well. Diggler struggling a bit here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Daren tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. You can see the frustration on Diggler's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Diggler tries to bench press Daren off him but Daren keeps the position. Daren wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Diggler, who protects the arm well. Daren swings around for an armbar but Diggler sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Daren's guard. Diggler wants to control from the top but Daren keeps moving. Diggler must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Diggler postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Daren keeping moving, preventing Diggler from controlling successfully. Daren on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Daren tries to get out of the position. Diggler has gone for a leg lock! Daren slips out almost immediately though and dives into Diggler's guard. Daren landing some decent shots from guard. Daren is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Diggler is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Daren thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Diggler working a defensive guard here.
Diggler keeping moving, preventing Daren from controlling successfully. Daren drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Daren jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Diggler is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Diggler looking for a guillotine here but Daren defends easily.

Warren Daren dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Daren fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Diggler tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Daren bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Daren wants to stand but Diggler has his arm trapped. Daren is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Diggler can do to turn this around? Daren cracks Diggler with an elbow. That is naaassty. Diggler struggling a bit here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Daren tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Daren has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Daren cracks Diggler with an elbow. That is naaassty.
That's one minute gone in the round. Daren is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Diggler is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Daren wants to stand but Diggler has his arm trapped. Daren tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Diggler throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! Diggler gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Daren is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Diggler is defending well. Daren looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Diggler is looking to take this one to the mat. Daren ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Daren no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Daren tries to land a sweep but no joy. Warren Daren overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Daren is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Diggler defends well. Daren working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Diggler doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Diggler manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Daren is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Diggler is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Diggler wants to control from the top but Daren keeps moving. Diggler wants to get up but he can't break Daren's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Diggler got a little sloppy there for a moment and Daren has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Diggler has managed to get both his arms back between Daren's legs - danger averted. Daren is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Diggler gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Diggler closes the distance and clinches. Daren turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Daren manages to end up in side control. Diggler is looking to regain half guard here but Daren keeps moving and retains side control. Daren is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Diggler knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Diggler wants to get back to his feet but Daren drags him back down. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Diggler tries to improve position but can't. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Warren Daren will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

It looks like Warren Daren has been cut. Daren changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Diggler tries to avoid it but Daren manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Diggler to the ground. Diggler escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Warren Daren. That's going to take a lot out of him. Daren stuffs the takedown. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Daren darts in looking for a takedown but Diggler gets double underhooks and turns Daren into the cage. Diggler takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Diggler closes the distance and clinches. Diggler is trying to force a seperation but Daren has the dominant position.

Diggler is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Daren dives into side control.
Daren tries for a kimura but Diggler is defending well. Diggler is trying to improve his position. Daren wants to control but Diggler is keeping him busy. Diggler tries to buck Daren off but Daren is having none of it. Diggler throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Daren is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Diggler knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Daren gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Diggler is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Daren lets go of the hold and Diggler can pop his arm back in it's socket.
