The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Macdonald displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Williams. Macdonald could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Macdonald looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Williams is fending him off so far but Macdonald persists. Nope, Williams circles away and we're back to standing. Williams shoots for a takedown but Macdonald saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Macdonald lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. Williams tests Macdonald's chin there with a solid looking shot. Williams darts in looking for a takedown but Macdonald gets double underhooks and turns Williams into the cage. Lane Macdonald has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Junior Williams. Williams closes the distance and lands a one-two.
It looks like Lane Macdonald has been cut. No luck for Williams with that takedown attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Williams keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Williams moves into range and clinches up with Macdonald.
That's one minute gone in the round. Macdonald is trying to trip Williams. He has hold of a leg but Williams is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Macdonald persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Macdonald thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Williams is wriggling around but Macdonald manages to pass to half guard.

Macdonald keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Williams is trying to maintain the position but Macdonald is very close to passing his half guard. Macdonald is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Macdonald gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Macdonald instigates a clinch. Macdonald breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Macdonald shoots in and drives through. Williams sprawls well. Williams has Macdonald up against the cage in a clinch.
Macdonald pulls guard effortlessly. Macdonald is looking to cinch up a triangle. Williams throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Macdonald's body to avoid the submission. Macdonald has instead reached around Williams's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Macdonald arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Lane Macdonald!
