Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Big Dog! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexey Potapenko! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Valeri Chadov and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dog misses the body punch and Potapenko counters with a one-two to the body. Potapenko shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dog pinned against the cage. Dog gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Potapenko takes a kick to the body and keeps moving. A low kick from Dog is predictable there and Potapenko counters with a takedown into side control. Potapenko misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Potapenko tries to score with some ground and pound. Dog controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dog takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
You can see the frustration on Dog's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dog manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Dog performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Dog prevents Potapenko from standing back up.
Potapenko tries to get to full guard but Dog has control of the leg. Dog seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Dog works his way into full mount! Dog takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Potapenko is still trying to improve position. Dog wants to control the pace but Potapenko is squirming around nicely. Potapenko is desperately trying to improve his position but Dog has a good base and remains in mount. Dog tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Potapenko is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes. Potapenko tries to reverse the position but Dog maintains control. Dog looking to control but Potapenko is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Potapenko is in all sorts of trouble here.

He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Potapenko working to try and regain half guard.
Dog wants to take his opponent's back but Potapenko doesn't allow it. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Dog controlling from the full mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Big Dog will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Dog throws a leg kick that is checked and Potapenko counters with a left and a right that stings Dog. Dog misses with a hook. Potapenko feints the counter takedown. Big Dog seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Dog throws a poor cross that misses
and Potapenko counters with a stiff right hand. Dog moves in looking to clinch but Potapenko pushes him off. Potapenko swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Dog lands with an uppercut that bounces Potapenko off the cage and back into range. Dog lands a right hook to the body.
A shot to the body from Dog misses and Potapenko counters with a lovely straight right hand! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dog lands an overhand right. Potapenko throws a series of punches but Dog avoids them all with ease. Potapenko changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dog tries to avoid it but Potapenko manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dog to the ground. Dog escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. A low kick from Dog is predictable there and Potapenko counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Potapenko defending well as Dog loads up on a big left hand. Dog misses the shot to the body. Potapenko avoids the body shot from Dog.
Potapenko swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. A low kick from Dog is predictable there and Potapenko counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Dog! Dog is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Dog manages to work his way to half guard, despite Potapenko's best efforts. Dog is refusing to be controlled, as Potapenko sits in half guard. Potapenko is looking for a kimura but Dog is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Potapenko to get the leverage. Potapenko stalling away here and it's allowed Dog to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. We've been hearing good reports from Dog's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Dog looking to hit a scissor sweep but Potapenko is one step ahead there. Dog is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Potapenko tries to free his leg and advance position but Dog is retaining full guard. That's three minutes gone in the round. Potapenko throws a big elbow that misses. Dog pulls Potapenko in close to his closed guard and prevents Potapenko from doing any damage or advancing position.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. A looping hook to the body misses from Dog. Potapenko does a little dance to reset his feet. Dog throws a head kick that misses. Dog scoring well with a low kick there.
Alexey Potapenko is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Potapenko uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Dog.
Potapenko tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Potapenko bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. And Potapenko tries to counter it with a takedown but Dog pushes his down on his head and steps out. Dog misses the shot to the body. Alexey Potapenko showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Dog is refusing to be controlled, as Potapenko sits in half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Potapenko lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Potapenko is trying to control the action in half guard but Dog is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Potapenko is stalling here. Dog is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Potapenko seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Dog has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Dog wants to lay and pray for a moment but Potapenko keeps working. Dog working away. Potapenko tries to improve position but can't. Potapenko is trying to buck Dog off. Dog controls the position. That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Dog tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Potapenko is not content to let Dog control the position. Potapenko is trying to escape and get back to his feet. You can see the frustration on Potapenko's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Potapenko wants to get back to his feet. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Dog fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Potapenko looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dog misses with a looping left. Potapenko with the counter takedown but Dog avoids it easily. A looping hook to the body misses from Dog. Potapenko does a little dance to reset his feet. Potapenko tries to counter by closing the distance. Potapenko chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Dog can pounce on him.
Dog throws a nice inside leg kick. Dog rushes Potapenko and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Potapenko breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Potapenko shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Potapenko is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Potapenko is thwarting Dog's attempts to control the position. Dog avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Potapenko. Potapenko misses with a head shot. Dog uses the momentum to regain guard. Potapenko trying to control but Dog is working from the bottom. Dog wants to sweep but no luck. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Potapenko looking to sit in guard and control but Dog gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Potapenko is adopting a defensive guard.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Big Dog. I think Dog has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
