Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yuri Kokorin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joao Cardozo!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cardozo leaves Kokorin with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Cardozo takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Cardozo stuffs the takedown.

Kokorin closes the distance and clinches.

Kokorin pulls guard effortlessly.
Kokorin is controlling Cardozo's posture.
Cardozo has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kokorin is proving hard to escape from.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kokorin is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Cardozo presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Cardozo gets control of Kokorin's arms and successfully pulls guard. Cardozo will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Cardozo looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kokorin stays in close to Cardozo's body and controls the position.
Cardozo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Kokorin looking to pass the guard.
Kokorin trying to control but Cardozo is working from the bottom.
Cardozo is looking to stand back up but Kokorin counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Cardozo.
Kokorin looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Cardozo tries to get to full guard but Kokorin has control of the leg.
Kokorin controlling the action here.
Kokorin missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Kokorin thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cardozo's head.
Kokorin perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Cardozo trying to control but Kokorin postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cardozo shoots in for a double leg but Kokorin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Cardozo fails with the takedown.

Kokorin clinches up with Cardozo and pushes him back against the cage.

Kokorin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cardozo misses with a takedown attempt - Kokorin sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Yuri Kokorin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joao Cardozo.
A head kick by Cardozo misses
and Kokorin counters with a two punch combo.
Cardozo tries to clinch but Kokorin is having none of it.
Cardozo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kokorin as he jumps to the side.
Cardozo looks winded!
Kokorin shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cardozo defends it nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kokorin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cardozo's waist but Cardozo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kokorin off to one side.
Cardozo fails to land the takedown.
Cardozo tries to clinch there but Kokorin circles away.

Kokorin pushes Cardozo up against the cage in a clinch.

Kokorin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
No luck for Kokorin with that takedown attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

and Kokorin counters with a series of strikes. Cardozo will be more careful next time no doubt.


Cardozo is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Kokorin shoots in for a takedown. He's got it... He's hoisted his opponent over his head and is carrying him over to the other end of the mat. The crowd roars in approval and Kokorin slams his opponent to the mat. OH, that is naaaaaasty! He's out! Kokorin lands a punch to his unconscious victim for good measure before the ref has time to call the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Slam). Yuri Kokorin!
