PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ligerito Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pozar Pozar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pozar comes into a darkened arena with his song building. z Buta Wjeżdzam kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ligerito Rodriguez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 33 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pozar Pozar!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rodriguez moves into the clinch successfully.

Pozar manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pozar is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rodriguez defends well.
Pozar is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Pozar keeping full guard, as Rodriguez tries to pass.
Rodriguez is working hard here to advance position.
Pozar wants to stand but Rodriguez is controlling the position.

Pozar has his foot on Rodriguez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rodriguez works his way back into a safe position though.

Pozar is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rodriguez defends well.
Pozar looking for a sweep. Not yet Pozar, not yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rodriguez with a nice head shot there.
Pozar is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Pozar thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rodriguez's head.
Rodriguez wants to improve his position but Pozar is controlling well.

Pozar is keen to just control but Rodriguez is a slippery customer.
Rodriguez moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Rodriguez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pozar can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Pozar wants to pass the guard but Rodriguez is keeping the position.
Pozar trying to control the position from guard on top but Rodriguez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Rodriguez working for a triangle but Pozar defends it easily.
Pozar working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Pozar got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rodriguez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pozar has managed to get both his arms back between Rodriguez's legs - danger averted.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Pozar pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rodriguez is keeping the position for now.
Rodriguez has momentary wrist control but Pozar slips an elbow through the middle.
Pozar wants to pass the guard but Rodriguez is keeping the position.
Pozar wants to control from the top but Rodriguez keeps moving.

Rodriguez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Pozar landing some decent shots from guard.

Rodriguez is looking for a triangle here but Pozar uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Rodriguez is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Pozar wants to control but Rodriguez is keeping him busy.

Pozar is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Rodriguez has escaped the position, nice work there.
Pozar is looking to take a break and control but Rodriguez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rodriguez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Pozar wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Rodriguez regains half guard.

Rodriguez looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Rodriguez is looking to improve his position.
Rodriguez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Pozar is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Pozar looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Rodriguez is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Pozar pulls his head out easily.
Pozar has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Pozar landing strikes from the mount.
Pozar looking to control but Rodriguez is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Rodriguez is desperately trying to improve his position but Pozar has a good base and remains in mount.
Pozar landing punches.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rodriguez is bucking up trying to escape but Pozar cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Pozar lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rodriguez tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Pozar looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pozar Pozar dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Rodriguez tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pozar swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Pozar is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Rodriguez is looking to clinch but Pozar is avoiding it.
Pozar has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

Pozar throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Rodriguez was covering up waiting for the punch and Pozar finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Pozar stands up over Rodriguez, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Pozar has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Rodriguez looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Rodriguez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pozar gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Rodriguez is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pozar is aware though and is defending well.
Pozar content to stall in guard here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rodriguez throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Pozar escapes and throws Rodriguez's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Pozar has hold of Rodriguez's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Rodriguez seems comfortable defending it but Pozar has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Rodriguez is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Rodriguez is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Pozar couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Pozar Pozar!
A determined Pozar Pozar didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
