Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Santos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Buta Pumpo!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Kavanagh and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pumpo misses with an uppercut. Santos saw that one coming.
Santos looks for a takedown but Pumpo sprawls well.
Pumpo keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Pumpo tries a head kick but it misses.
Pumpo stuffs the takedown attempt from Santos. Santos gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Santos. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pumpo wants to clinch.
Santos looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Santos is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Pumpo misses the shot to the body.
Santos shoots for a takedown but Pumpo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Pumpo is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Santos takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Pumpo doesn't manage to clinch there - Santos circles away.
Pumpo lands a nice looking body shot.
Pumpo throws a solid leg kick but Santos takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Pumpo.

Santos stops Pumpo from getting back to his feet.

Santos is working for a kimura but Pumpo is defending it quite comfortably.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Santos thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pumpo's head.

Pumpo kicks Santos off and gets back to his feet.
Pumpo connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Pumpo tries to clinch up but Santos circles away and keeps his distance.
Pumpo tries to close the distance and clinch up but Santos swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Santos lands a head shot.


It looks like Buta Pumpo has been cut.

Santos avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Pumpo lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Santos shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pumpo but Pumpo pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Santos shoots in but no luck this time.

Santos shoots in and bounces Pumpo off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Pumpo can't keep his opponent in guard - Santos advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Santos throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Pumpo is looking to control Santos's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pumpo avoid being mounted?

Pumpo wants to improve his position but Santos is controlling well.
Pumpo avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Santos.
Santos winds up and cracks Pumpo with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Pumpo wants to control but Santos is keeping busy.
Santos thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Santos is tying to control. Pumpo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Pumpo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Santos. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Santos throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Pumpo lands a nice hook to Santos's body. Santos takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Pumpo tries to close the distance and clinch but Santos swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mike Santos will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Buta Pumpo's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Pumpo throws a sloppy head kick and Santos moves out of range easily.
Pumpo misses with a low kick.
Pumpo throws a left and a right that both miss

and Santos counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Santos is trying to control the action in half guard but Pumpo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Pumpo is defending against the submission attempts here by Santos.
Santos winds up and cracks Pumpo with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Santos seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pumpo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Pumpo kicks off Santos and gets to his feet.
Santos defending well as Pumpo loads up on a big left hand.

Pumpo tries to clinch up

and Santos decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pumpo's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Santos pushes down on Pumpo's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Pumpo has one foot on Santos's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Santos staying out of range there.
Pumpo closes the distance looking to clinch
and Santos counters with a nice leg kick.
Pumpo is breathing heavily.
A swing and a miss from Pumpo.

Pumpo tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Santos was well out of range. Poor timing from Pumpo.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pumpo is not content to let Santos control the position.
Santos lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Pumpo down.

Santos is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pumpo is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Pumpo explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Santos looks for a takedown but Pumpo sprawls well.
Buta Pumpo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Santos misses with a two punch combination.
Pumpo stuffs the takedown.
Pumpo throws a lazy head kick

and Santos moves into the clinch.
Santos tries to score a body lock takedown but Pumpo shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Santos. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pumpo gets underhooks to prevent Santos's takedown attempt.
Pumpo wants to break free but Santos has control.
Pumpo wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Santos keeps control of Pumpo as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pumpo can do anything to dispel that myth.

The cut man is working on Buta Pumpo's cut.
That's time! Santos's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Santos tests Pumpo's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Pumpo darts in trying to clinch

and Santos counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Santos tries to free his leg and advance position but Pumpo is retaining full guard.

Santos drops back looking for a leg! Pumpo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Pumpo manages to kick Santos off! Santos jumps back into Pumpo's guard.
Pumpo wants to stand but Santos is controlling the position.
Pumpo is adopting a defensive guard.

Santos is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Santos is looking to work some ground and pound but Pumpo has wrist control.
Pumpo throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Santos trying to control the position from guard on top but Pumpo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mike Santos overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A jab from Pumpo misses.
Buta Pumpo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Pumpo tries to close the distance and clinch but Santos swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pumpo takes a swing at Santos's ribcage but misses.
No luck for Santos with that takedown attempt.

Pumpo forces Santos back against the cage and clinches.
Pumpo stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Pumpo is trying to drag Santos to the mat but Santos just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Santos's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Santos shoots for a takedown but Pumpo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

and Santos counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Pumpo's guard now.

Santos stands and throws Pumpo's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Santos tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Santos looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Santos prevents Pumpo from escaping the position.
Buta Pumpo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mike Santos is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Pumpo tries to bench press Santos off him but Santos keeps the position.
Santos is looking to take a break and control but Pumpo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Pumpo is trying to get back to half guard.
Santos in side control lands a decent elbow.
Pumpo is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Santos tries for a kimura but Pumpo is defending well.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mike Santos showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Santos, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
