The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Williams shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Macdonald uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Williams defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Macdonald. Williams shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Macdonald but Macdonald pushes him off and we're back to square one. Macdonald gets tackled into the cage by Williams. Williams maintains the clinch. Williams tries to pull guard but Macdonald won't allow it.
Macdonald really is a fat lump. Williams breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Williams shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Macdonald manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Williams is standing up over Macdonald. Macdonald looks to escape but Williams dives into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action! Macdonald keeping his opponent close. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Macdonald on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Williams closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Macdonald wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Macdonald pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Macdonald takes the fight into the clinch. Williams is trying to drag Macdonald to the mat but Macdonald just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Lane Macdonald has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Williams. Macdonald pulls guard. Macdonald throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Macdonald had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Williams defends it easily. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Williams tries to free his leg and advance position but Macdonald is retaining full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Jake Williams will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Williams stuffs the takedown. Williams lands with a kick to the temple. Macdonald shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
It looks like Lane Macdonald has been cut. Williams throws a nice looking combination but Macdonald bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Williams has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Macdonald closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Williams is trying to break the clinch but Macdonald has him pressed against the cage. Macdonald tries to pull guard but Williams holds him up against the cage and eventually Macdonald drops back down to his feet.
Macdonald turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Macdonald manages to end up in side control. Jake Williams has got the better of the ground game so far. Williams trying to remain calm as Macdonald controls from the top position. Williams gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Macdonald decides to return to a standing position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Williams closes the distance and pushes Macdonald back into the cage. Macdonald pulls guard. Williams wanted to stand there but Macdonald had control of the position. Macdonald is controlling Williams's posture. Williams throwing strikes from guard but Macdonald blocks nicely. Williams throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Williams wants to control from the top but Macdonald keeps moving. Williams throws a strike but Macdonald rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Williams utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Williams wants to sweep but no luck. Williams trying to keep a closed guard but Macdonald is proving a slippery customer.
Williams is breathing heavily. Williams controlling Macdonald's posture. Macdonald engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Williams throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Macdonald's waist but Macdonald gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Williams off to one side. Macdonald thinks about countering with a head kick. Macdonald is trying hard to land a takedown here. Williams sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lane Macdonald. That's going to take a lot out of him. Macdonald tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Williams swivels and escapes. Horrible takedown attempt by Williams or perhaps it was just good defense by Macdonald, which made it look bad. Jake Williams seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Williams moves into the clinch. Macdonald breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Williams pushes Macdonald against the cage but Macdonald circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Macdonald closes the distance and clinches. Macdonald jumps into guard, dragging Williams to the mat.
Macdonald has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Williams off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Macdonald manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Williams on his heels. He'll look to pass Williams's guard now, I'm sure. Macdonald is standing up over Williams. Williams looks to escape but Macdonald dives into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Macdonald scores with a couple of short elbows. Macdonald remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Macdonald fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Williams feints a jab promting Macdonald to slip. Williams then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Macdonald slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Macdonald throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Williams was covering up waiting for the punch and Macdonald finishes the takedown easily into guard. Williams not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Williams has momentary wrist control but Macdonald slips an elbow through the middle. Macdonald landing some decent shots from guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Macdonald sitting in guard here, content to control. Williams working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Macdonald doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Macdonald manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Williams takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Macdonald slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Macdonald closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Williams's guard. Williams wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Macdonald is now in half guard. Macdonald perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Macdonald stands up out of the half guard. Macdonald throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Williams's waist but Williams gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Macdonald off to one side. Macdonald darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Macdonald content to control rather than advance. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Macdonald's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
