Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Santiago! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dwayne Austin! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Anthony Taglia and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Austin just misses with a punch to the body.
Austin tries to close the distance and clinch but Santiago swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Austin moves into range and connects with a jab. Austin shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Austin avoids a punch combination nicely.
Austin fails with a takedown attempt. Santiago throws a sloppy head kick and Austin moves out of range easily. Austin misses with a takedown attempt - Santiago sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Chris Santiago has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Austin shoots for a double leg takedown but Santiago sprawls well. He's pushed Austin's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Austin tries a head kick but it misses.

and Austin decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Santiago's guard. Austin is looking to advance position but Santiago has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Santiago avoids the attempt from Austin to control. Santiago thowing shots but they're missing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Austin wants to control but Santiago is having none of it. Austin controls the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Austin working to try and regain half guard.

Dwayne Austin dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Santiago tries for a takedown but Austin sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Austin shoots and misses letting Santiago counter with a right hand. Santiago throws a combination that misses and Austin counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Santiago's guard now. Austin postures up and lands a big shot to Santiago's brow. Austin trying to control the position from guard on top but Santiago is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Santiago tries to land a sweep but no joy. Austin seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Santiago keeping moving, preventing Austin from controlling successfully. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Santiago preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Austin stands and steps away. Santiago gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Santiago ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Austin moves away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Austin has his takedown stuffed and Santiago counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Austin wants to control but Santiago is keeping busy.
Austin makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Austin. Austin scores with a nice shot. Austin seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Austin wriggles free and stands up. Austin throws a head kick but Santiago moves out of range.
Austin with a lazy takedown attempt and Santiago makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Chris Santiago has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dwayne Austin. Austin with a poor takedown and Santiago counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Austin wants to get back to full guard. Austin strikes from the bottom but Santiago uses the opportunity to move to side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Austin gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Austin regains full guard. Nicely done. Austin has control of Santiago's left arm, preventing Santiago from doing any damage. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Austin is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That looked like it hurt. Austin closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Austin lands in his opponent's guard. Austin content to stall in guard here. Austin wants to pass the guard but Santiago is keeping the position. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Austin wants to stand but Santiago is controlling his posture from full guard. Austin slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Austin is pushing down on Santiago's leg trying to pass to half guard. Santiago is fighting to maintain full guard but Austin has managed to sneak the leg through.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Austin is keen to just control but Santiago is a slippery customer. Well, if Austin is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Austin gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Santiago counters with a nice uppercut. Austin misses with a takedown attempt and Santiago counters with a one-two to the body. And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Chris Santiago. I think Santiago has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
