PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Glen Mckenzie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Psycho kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Glen Mckenzie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Smith!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Chris Dean and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A lazy body kick from Smith
and Mckenzie counters with a nice uppercut.
Mckenzie really is a fat lump.

Mckenzie has closed the distance and engaged Smith in a clinch.

Smith ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Smith no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Smith is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Mckenzie lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Smith has his feet on Mckenzie's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Mckenzie gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Smith's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Mckenzie scores a nice knee to the body.
Mckenzie misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Smith.
Mckenzie unloads a knee to the mid-section. Smith lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Mckenzie.

Smith successfully pulls guard.
Smith thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Mckenzie tries to stand but Smith is controlling from the bottom.
Mckenzie has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Smith is on top in guard.

Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mckenzie swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Smith gets to his feet. Mckenzie looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Smith shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mckenzie manages to get to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith looking to sit in guard and control but Mckenzie gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Mckenzie working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Mckenzie throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mckenzie wants to get up but he can't break Smith's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Smith bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mckenzie's guard.

Mckenzie looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Smith passes into half guard.
Mckenzie pushes Smith off looking to stand but Smith dives back in and keeps control.
Mckenzie is not content to let Smith control the position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Glen Mckenzie will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Smith gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Mckenzie regains guard.
Mckenzie is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Smith dives into side control.
Jake Smith has got the better of the ground game so far.


Smith decides to stand up, so the ref orders Mckenzie to his feet.
Mckenzie tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Smith misses with a kick to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mckenzie's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Mckenzie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Smith postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Smith decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mckenzie, up you get!

Smith closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mckenzie to the mat! Mckenzie manages to get full guard.
Smith wants to stand but Mckenzie is controlling his posture from full guard.
Smith passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Mckenzie tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Smith lands a decent elbow from side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith cracks Mckenzie with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Mckenzie tries to strike but it doesn't land.
Smith sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Mckenzie is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
A lull in the action here.
Smith's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Mckenzie is trying to strike from the bottom but Smith has passed into full mount.
Smith lands a big elbow.


It looks like Glen Mckenzie has been cut.
Smith wants to control the pace but Mckenzie is squirming around nicely.
Smith wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Smith controlling from mount.
Smith trying to control but Mckenzie is having none of it.

Smith stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Smith scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Smith in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Smith trying to control the position but Mckenzie is working away.
Mckenzie might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Smith avoids the strikes from the bottom by Mckenzie.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Smith turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Smith manages to end up in side control.
Mckenzie is looking to get back to his feet here but Smith is keeping cool and he's managed to take Mckenzie's back.
Smith is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Mckenzie is trying to get back to his feet but Smith has full control of the position and if anything, Mckenzie has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Smith working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Can Mckenzie hold on?! Smith is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.

Smith is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
You can see the frustration on Mckenzie's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Smith is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Mckenzie is defending well though. Smith let's go of the attempt for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Smith is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Smith has managed to slip his arm under Mckenzie's chin. This could be all over... yep, Mckenzie is tapping out! Submission win for Smith.

During a confident post fight interview, Jake Smith thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
