Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jethro Rusted! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sergio Aguilar! The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Anni Minnemäki and Roosa Järviläinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rusted ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Good shot there by Aguilar. Rusted shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. A low kick from Rusted is predictable there and Aguilar counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Rusted swings away with a leg kick that misses. Aguilar shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rusted as he avoids it easily. Aguilar throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sergio Aguilar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Aguilar fails with an attempt to clinch.
Rusted attempts a counter takedown but Aguilar avoids it well and moves away. Aguilar waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Rusted. Aguilar avoids the head kick by Rusted.
Rusted throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Aguilar cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Aguilar instigates a clinch. A head punch on the inside from Aguilar fails to land. Aguilar is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Rusted to keep the fight standing. That's one minute gone in the round. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Rusted. A nice right hand lands inside from Rusted. Aguilar tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Aguilar's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Aguilar will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Jethro Rusted has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sergio Aguilar. Aguilar slips a jab from Rusted. Aguilar closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Rusted bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Aguilar shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Aguilar was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Aguilar working away. Aguilar thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Aguilar tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rusted is looking for a sweep. Aguilar trying to control the position but Rusted is working away. Rusted tries to buck Aguilar off but Aguilar is having none of it. Aguilar wants to control but Rusted is keeping him busy. Aguilar looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Rusted has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Rusted sneaks back into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Aguilar trying to control from Rusted's half guard. Rusted has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Rusted pulls Aguilar in close to prevent any damage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Aguilar wants to control from the top but Rusted keeps moving. Rusted trying to keep a closed guard but Aguilar is proving a slippery customer.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Rusted is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Aguilar stands and throws Rusted's legs to the side, diving into side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Aguilar trying to control the position but Rusted is working away. Aguilar working away. Aguilar is looking to take a break and control but Rusted is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Aguilar laying and praying for a moment but Rusted takes advantage and regains half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aguilar goes for a double leg but Rusted avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Rusted continues to drive forward. But no, Rusted has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Aguilar but great work by Rusted. Aguilar is looking to reverse the position. Rusted creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Aguilar is trying to work for a sweep but Rusted has mounted him! Aguilar is bucking up trying to escape but Rusted cracks him with another couple of good strikes. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Aguilar sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Rusted takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Aguilar trying to control from the bottom.

Rusted leaves Aguilar with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Rusted takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Aguilar misses with a right hand and Rusted counters with a low kick, right behind Aguilar 's knee. Jab from Aguilar. The fighters circling - Rusted throws out the jab but it was never going to land. That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Aguilar bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rusted's guard. Aguilar forces his way into half guard. Aguilar trying to advance position but Rusted counters by regaining guard. Aguilar stopping the sweep attempt from Rusted. Aguilar passes Rusted's left leg - he's now in half guard. Rusted keeping control of the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Aguilar is pressing down on Rusted's thigh, looking to free his foot. Rusted is holding on for now. Aguilar is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Rusted reverses the position - he's now on top in Aguilar's guard. Aguilar looking for a sweep. Not yet Aguilar, not yet. Aguilar has his hands on Rusted's head, controlling the position. Rusted wants to control from the top but Aguilar keeps moving. Aguilar is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Aguilar is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Rusted content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Rusted works over Aguilar with some ground and pound from guard. Aguilar wants to sweep here but Rusted controlling him for the moment. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Rusted trying to control but Aguilar is working from the bottom. Aguilar trying to control the position.

Rusted avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Rusted displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Aguilar throws out the jab. Sloppy strikes from Rusted. Those never looked like landing. Aguilar shoots in looking for a takedown but Rusted manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Aguilar's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Rusted was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Aguilar checks a leg kick. Aguilar throws a jab when Rusted was well out of range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Good shot there by Rusted. Aguilar lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Sergio Aguilar seems to be getting the better of the standup. Aguilar takes a swing at Rusted's ribcage but misses. Aguilar throws an overhand right that lands on Rusted's shoulder, as Rusted tries to avoid the shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Aguilar misses with an uppercut. Rusted saw that one coming. Rusted lands a jab. Aguilar might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Aguilar walks forward, straight into a front kick from Rusted. Aguilar pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Rusted lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Rusted throws a wild combination but nothing lands. The crowd cheers as Rusted lands an impressive looking overhand right. Aguilar doesn't seem phased though. Aguilar swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Rusted appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick. Aguilar moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Aguilar darts in looking for a takedown but Rusted gets double underhooks and turns Aguilar into the cage. Rusted blocks a jab. Rusted fails to land with a series of punches.
It seemed like Aguilar was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Rusted is not content to let Aguilar control the position. Aguilar is just content to waste time from the top position. Rusted takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Rusted looking to hit a scissor sweep but Aguilar is one step ahead there. Aguilar is pushing down on Rusted's leg trying to pass to half guard. Rusted is fighting to maintain full guard but Aguilar has managed to sneak the leg through.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jethro Rusted. I think Rusted has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
