Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Clair Delacruz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Max Woods! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Daniel Bishop and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Woods throws a head kick that misses. Delacruz throws a big counter combination but Woods scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Woods drops Delacruz with a beautiful combination! Delacruz stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Woods is looking for the KO!
It looks like Clair Delacruz has been cut. Woods has managed to clinch.
Delacruz is trying to pull guard but Woods turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Delacruz tries to pull guard but Woods holds him up against the cage and eventually Delacruz drops back down to his feet.
Woods can't break the clinch.
Delacruz is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Woods to keep the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clair Delacruz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Woods is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Delacruz jumps into guard, dragging Woods to the mat.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Woods throwing strikes from guard but Delacruz blocks nicely. Woods prevents Delacruz from getting back to his feet. Delacruz looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Woods passes into side control.
Woods working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Woods has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's one minute gone in the round. Woods just content to control the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Delacruz is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Woods decides to stand back up. Delacruz really is a fat lump. Woods feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Delacruzs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Woods connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Delacruz tumbling to the canvas! Woods pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Delacruz was done - good stoppage!
