PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nick Holla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Amadi Obama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Amadi Obama was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Nick Holla!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Amadi Obama!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Ryoma Takatsuka and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holla lands with a hook. Obama tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Holla lands with a slapping head kick.
Holla misses with a double jab.

Holla forces Obama back against the cage and clinches.
Holla looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Obama ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Obama no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Holla has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Holla won't allow Obama to sweep him here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Holla throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Obama works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Holla avoids a wild elbow strike from Obama.

Obama prevents Holla from breaking the clinch.
Holla is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Obama tries to pull guard but Holla holds him up against the cage and eventually Obama drops back down to his feet.

Holla wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Obama has him pressed against the cage.

Holla decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Holla throws a one two combo.

Holla drives through and clinches with Obama against the cage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Obama manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Holla manages to get himself to full guard.

Obama stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Holla swivels though and keeps the full guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Holla dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Holla fails with a takedown attempt.
Holla tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Obama drives through and clinches with Holla against the cage.
Obama jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Holla walks away with a smile on his face. Obama gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
We've been informed that Obama has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Obama closes the distance and clinches.
Holla swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Obama tries to pull guard but Holla forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Holla is trying to force a seperation but Obama has the dominant position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Holla breaks from the clinch.

Obama clinches up against the cage.

Obama jumps into guard, dragging Holla to the mat.

Obama looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Obama is on top in guard.

Obama is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Holla is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Holla has escaped and now he's on top!

Holla tries to break free but Obama pushes him back against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on Obama - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Holla's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Holla lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Obama backs up against the cage.
Obama tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Holla paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Holla lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

Holla clinches up with Obama and pushes him back against the cage.

Holla's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Holla misses with a wild combination.

Obama moves into the clinch successfully.

A nice right hand lands inside from Holla.
Holla wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Obama has him pressed against the cage.
Holla tries to land knees in the clinch but Obama avoids the damage to the body.
Holla is trying to pull guard but Obama has him pressed against the cage.
Holla is looking to control Obama's arms but Obama gets an underhook and turns him. Now Holla has his back to the cage.

Nick Holla has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Amadi Obama.

Holla is trying to break free.
Holla is trying to drag Obama to the mat but Obama just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Obama jumps guard but Holla turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Obama tries to close the distance and clinch but Holla swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Holla fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Obama, pushing him back against the cage.

Holla breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Holla pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Obama clinches up with Holla and pushes him back against the cage.
Holla has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Holla jumps guard but Obama stands there with Holla around his waist. Holla gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Obama tries to work over Holla's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Amadi Obama has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Holla plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Holla throws a head kick that misses.
Holla moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Obama leaves Holla with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Obama tries to keep at a distance but Holla has taken the fight into the clinch.
Obama tries to pull guard but Holla won't allow it.

Obama manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Holla has gone for a leg lock! Obama slips out almost immediately though and dives into Holla's guard.

Holla wants to control the position but Obama says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Obama in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Holla tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Obama!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Amadi Obama!
