Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Hawkins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, mark tyrer! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Colin Fotheringham and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! tyrer shoots in but no luck this time. mark tyrer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hawkins keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. tyrer tries to clinch but Hawkins moves out of range. Hawkins fails with a takedown attempt. Hawkins has his takedown stuffed and tyrer counters by moving into the clinch. tyrer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Hawkins shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Hawkins was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! tyrer is in all sorts of trouble here.
tyrer is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. tyrer is in a horrible position here. Hawkins smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
tyrer is trying to escape the mount.
tyrer is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Hawkins looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. tyrer tries to lock up and control but Hawkins gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hawkins is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but tyrer is surviving well by controlling Hawkins's body position as best he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. tyrer is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Hawkins landing strikes from the mount and tyrer is in trouble! tyrer defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Hawkins. Hawkins is breathing heavily. tyrer is looking to get to half guard. Hawkins has hold of tyrer's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and tyrer manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Hawkins blocks tyrer's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. tyrer flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
tyrer is trying desperately to improve position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. tyrer is trying to stand up. tyrer swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Hawkins lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
tyrer tries to get back to half guard but can't. tyrer wants to control but Hawkins is having none of it. Hawkins working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. tyrer turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Hawkins off and cradles tyrer's limp body as Hawkins celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Joe Hawkins!
