Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jon Valdez!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Mauricio Rocha and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Francis stuffs the takedown attempt from Valdez. Valdez gets slowly back to his feet.

Valdez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
As Valdez tries to get set, Francis tries to push him back and clinch up but Valdez manages to avoid the attempt.
Nathanial Francis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Valdez.
Valdez tries to close the distance and clinch but Francis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Francis controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Francis's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Francis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Francis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Valdez doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Francis counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Valdez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Francis.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Valdez wants to clinch.
Francis lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Valdez tries to close the distance and clinch up but Francis swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Francis seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Nice takedown defense from Francis. No joy for Valdez on that attempt.

Francis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Francis seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Valdez for as long as he can get away with.
