Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Robbie Lawler! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Dee Penn! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Cecil Peabody and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Penn doesn't succeed with the takedown letting Lawler counter with a right hand. Penn darts in trying to clinch and Lawler counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Lawler looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Penn takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Lawler throws a shot to the body.
Penn has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Penn there as he acknowledges the shot. Lawler lands with a cross. Penn clinches up against the cage. Lawler being controlled against the cage. Still in the clinch, Lawler scores with a nice short uppercut. Lawler is looking to break free of the clinch but Penn has double underhooks. Lawler is working Penn over against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. A head punch blocked on the inside by Penn. Lawler tries a body shot but Penn blocks it.
Lawler working some nice short punches in the clinch. Penn is looking to take this one to the mat. Lawler trying to control the position but instead, Penn has worked for underhooks and has pushed Lawler into the cage. Lawler misses with a short punch on the inside. Lawler tries a body shot but Penn blocks it.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Lawler creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Penn has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Lawler scores with a shoulder strike. Lawler breaks the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lawler lands a head kick. Penn smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Penn is rocked! BAM! Lawler delivers a spinning backfist that drops Penn like a ragdoll! This is all oooooveeeer! He was out before he hit the ground!
