Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alfie Jackson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Johnny Francois! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Steve Smith and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jackson scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Jackson tries to move to mount but Francois blocks the move with his legs. Jackson is trying to get an arm triangle but Francois is defending well. Francois tries to bench press Jackson off him but Jackson keeps the position. Jackson tries to advance to mount but Francois denies him. Francois is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Jackson happy to just control the position for now. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jackson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Jackson goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Francois has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Jackson but great work by Francois.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jackson stops Francois from passing to mount. Jackson tries to get back to half guard but can't. Jackson avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Francois. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Francois working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jackson keeps Francois under control for a moment. Jackson continues to stall. Jackson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jackson tries to get out of the position. Jackson sneaks back into half guard. Jackson is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Montreal Athletic Center 5* spar, so we'll see if he gets out of it. It looks like Francois is going to stand back up.
Jackson keeping hold of Francois's head, controlling as best he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Jackson moves into full guard.
Jackson looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Jackson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Francois's guard. Jackson won't allow Francois to sweep him here. Jackson drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Jackson as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Francois screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Jackson! Nice submission victory there!
