Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kyle Long! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dmitri Zaitsev! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Long throws a big shot that misses. Long uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Zaitsev.
Long misses with a wild body shot. Zaitsev avoids the body shot from Long.
Zaitsev staying out of range there. Zaitsev throws a shot from downtown. Long moves away and avoids it. Dmitri Zaitsev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Zaitsev uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Long. A jab lands there for Zaitsev. Zaitsev fails with an attempt to clinch.
Long throws a body punch but Zaitsev moves out of range. Zaitsev slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Long waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Zaitsev. Zaitsev throws a body punch but Long moves out of range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Long looks to throw the jab but Zaitsev is out of range. Long with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Zaitsev to score with a decent uppercut. Zaitsev misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Long counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Zaitsev misses with a wild body shot. An attempted straight right counter from Long misses the target. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Long throws a looping overhand right but Zaitsev ducks down to avoid it. Zaitsev gets in close and instigates a clinch. Long is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Zaitsev's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zaitsev has a couple of punches blocked by Long.
Zaitsev misses with the head strike.
Long wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Long lands with a left to the head. Long breaks the clinch.
Zaitsev closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Long tries to work over Zaitsev's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Long wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Zaitsev has him pressed against the cage. Long breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Zaitsev is looking to clinch. Long scores with a jab. Zaitsev throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Long sees it coming and avoids it easily. Long takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Long slips a straight right by Zaitsev. Zaitsev dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Zaitsev takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Zaitsev throws a right and a left that both miss. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Zaitsev throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Long stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Zaitsev throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Long on the side of the head.
It looks like Kyle Long has been cut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jab, jab by Long - just one landing. Long fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Zaitsev throws an overhand right that drops Long like a sack of potatoes! Zaitsev dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:16 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dmitri Zaitsev! Dmitri Zaitsev seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
